Pav M - Acute Eating Disorder ACUTE Center for Eating Disorders & Severe Malnutrition (3M) is the world’s only Center of Excellence for the treatment of patients with extreme medical complications resulting from Eating Disorders and severe malnutrition. Nurses in the ACUTE Center for Eating Disorders play a vital role on the multidisciplinary team providing comprehensive and collaborative care to this patient population.
The ACUTE Center for Eating Disorders is a 30-bed unit with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5. CNAs and behavioral healthcare techs provide 1:1 care and supervision for every patient. This unique population requires both medical and behavioral interventions.
Job Summary

The Patient Safety attendant (PSA) assists in maintaining a safe environment and remains with the patient at all times to provide on-going observation of the patient. Under close supervision and delegation by the Registered Nurse, the PSA provides 1:1 or group continual observation of patients at risk for harm to self or others in a single room. Duties limited to direct patient observation, not to exceed a ratio of 1:2.
Essential Functions:
Patient Supervision (75%):
  • Keeps the patient safe from harm, falls, line or tube dislodgement or elopement. Immediately alerts the nurse to any changes in the patients’ safety or condition.
  • Maintains a calm environment for the patient while remaining in the patients' line of sight and/or within their arm’s reach at all times.
  • Listens and responds to patients needs and informs patient care team of patient observations and/or needs.
  • Provides diversion activities for the patient, as appropriate to help keep patient oriented.
Documentation (15%):
  • Collects clinical documentation to contribute to the Plan of Care in conjunctions with the RN/ LPN.
  • Completes appropriate flow sheet per Denver Health Guidelines while observing the patient(s).
  • Completes required documentation during the patient observation in the electronic medical record.
Patient Transfer (10%):
  • Provides ambulation and transfer under the direction of the assigned Register Nurse.
  • Provides hand-off communication to other employees when transferring care to another attendant, when there is movement to another care area, or when the patient no longer requires a safety attendant.

Education:
  • No High School Diploma and/or No GED Required

Work Experience:
  • No experience required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe environment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, physicians and the public.
  • Ability to maintain quality control standards.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
