Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Patient Estimates Analyst will have two main areas of responsibility in this role: responsibility for identifying and calculating estimated patient liability for scheduled and unscheduled services and the build and maintenance of new and existing estimate templates.

  • Follow ProMedica IT best practices for change management, documentation, and testing.
  • Build and test new estimate templates as needed.
  • Maintain Epic estimates build for existing templates, including WQ structures, operational workflows, and RTE accuracy.
  • Audit estimate performance for common issues. Escalate issues beyond the scope of this role to the Manager II, Patient Access.
  • Participate in IT testing and training efforts related to Epic functionality that utilizes estimates. Review Nova Notes for contract related updates in Epic upgrades and advise on any necessary changes.
  • Performs assessment and collections activity on pre-service scheduled appointments to resolve future and previous financial risk or escalate for appropriate review and approval in a timely manner.
  • Generate patient estimation of services as applicable and collect the specific deposit amount as outlined in the ProMedica policy.
  • Monitor, prioritize, collect, and resolve scheduled services for self-pay patients.
  • Assist patients with payment plan arrangements including collecting the initial deposit amount as part of the process following established departmental policy.
  • Identify other options to resolve financial obligation that results in financial clearance.
  • Continues to learn about industry leading practice to share and adopt as appropriate with leadership.
  • Understand, explain, execute, and help determine eligibility for financial assistance programs.
  • Works with internal and external resources as appropriate to support the patient with their education and understanding of coverage and/or payment options.
  • Consistently communicates issues and helps to review and implement people, process, and technology improvement as appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Skills: Exceptional client service, communication, and relationship building skills. Investigative/research skills required to identify financial options for patients. Must demonstrate advanced analytical and problem-solving skills. Knowledge of medical claim submission, managed care insurance requirements, government regulations, and third-party payers is essential. Self-motivated, works independently and consistently demonstrates the ability to perform with little to no supervision in a fast-paced environment.
  • Years of Experience: Minimum 3 years’ experience in revenue cycle or healthcare related field.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Personal Protective Equipment: Face mask and goggles (if applicable) as recommended by the CDC.
  • Physical Demands: Occasionally lifts/carries/pushes/pulls up to 25 pounds. Frequent, prolonged standing/walking/sitting.
