Roles and Responsibilities

Overview

The Patient Companion Lead (PCL) helps foster a culture that is centered around quality patient care and teamwork. The PCL oversees all Patient Care Companions PCC) that are scheduled for their respective shift. The PCL reports to the Patient Companion Program Manager and Nurse Float Pool leadership.  The focus of the PCL is to ensure all PCCs are supported while maintaining high quality care for patients and all safety protocol.

Requirements

  • Be able to speak and write the English language
  • Be knowledgeable of basic computer skills
  • Be able to stand/sit for long periods
  • Be able to walk around for long periods
  • Be able to lift/transfer patients
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills and coaching ability
  • Have strong communication skills and be able to work independently

PATIENT COMPANION LEAD

  • Upon shift start, report to staffing, ensure all PCCs check in/out times are recorded on sign in sheet.
  • Review 1-1 Assignments for concerns/swaps/shadow shifts.
  • Develop daily break schedule and ensure each PCC gets their breaks.
  • Responsible to round on active assignments and provide positive feedback and corrections.
  • Ensure assignment swaps are managed efficiently.
  • Training new hires and obtaining sign off on appropriate checklists.
  • Responsible to write and communicate incident reports, timely, with all pertinent information.
  • Responsible for ensuring team completes HS and Annual trainings appropriately.
  • Responsible for reporting call outs/tardies daily on when to work through schedule notes.
  • Ensure all employees review their schedules and are using the W2W application.
  • Responsible for checking email and W2W every shift for updates.
  • Responsible for reviewing weekly posted schedules for concerns/updates.

Years of Experience: Entry Level

Language Skills: Proficient in English both verbally and written

Certifications: CPR and First Aid

    • Reports to work in proper uniform as per departmental standards and/or hospital policy.
    • All Clinical Patient Support colleagues will maintain a professional, courteous attitude toward patient, co–workers and all departments daily.
  • Safety Awareness
    • Fosters a “Culture of Safety” through personal ownership and commitment to a safe environment.
    • Demonstrates proper body mechanics in all functions.
    • Understands individual role/responsibilities in the event of a hospital code. (e.g., Code Green, Code Red)
    • Performs proper handwashing per CDC guidelines.
    • Utilizes Chain of Command to communicate any identified patient or staff safety risks.
    • Reports patient status to oncoming staff in respectful, professional manner.
    • Is able to access payroll and manage personal clocking and calendar in Time PC Application.
