Job Title: Patient Care Technician - Recovery Room
Overview: Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing and charge nurse, and following the policies and procedures of the Center, the Patient Care Technician assigned to the pre-operative and recovery area is responsible for using independent judgment in providing care for patients from admission until discharge.
Position Scope:
Post-Operative Care: The Patient Care Technician assigned to the Recovery Area will be responsible for:
- Ice packs are distributed and placed on patient as directed by the nurse.
- Patients are safely transported by appropriate method.
- Discharge rooms are cleaned and stocked for the next day.
- Obtaining drinks or crackers for the patient as directed by the nurse.
All Areas of Patient Care: The Patient Care Technician assigned to any area of Patient Care will be responsible for:
- Cleaning and preparing stretchers prior to patient use.
- Treats all information obtained from patient, medical records or any other means of confidential, reporting only to those involved in direct Patient Care.
- Anticipates and plans for needs of patients, visitors, and employees.
- Supports the standards of Patient Care by utilizing policy and procedures and is aware of the goals and objectives for the department.
- Participates in Quality Improvement procedures necessary for the daily maintenance of the center.
- Is aware of the duties and activities necessary for the daily maintenance of the center.
- Uses proper communication and medical terminology.
- Supplies are used in a cost effective manner.
- Errands are completed in a timely manner.
- Laundry hampers are emptied as needed.
- Appropriate age-specific safety measures are demonstrated when providing Patient Care.
- Patient privacy and confidentially are maintained during procedures and care activities.
- Patients are correctly identified before any procedure is performed.
- Adverse responses to procedures are reported to the nurse immediately.
Education and Experience: Ideal candidates will have prior experience in caring for patients, preferably with surgical patients. Other experience may be accepted as equivalent. Must demonstrate interest in continuing education to upgrade knowledge of scientific principles and theory underlying Patient Care.
Physical Requirements: Must be in good general physical and emotional health. Position must possess good hearing, vision, and clear speech.
Personal: Must be able to organize work, to maintain professional integrity and ethical judgment, to make intelligent decisions and initiate appropriate action. Must be stable, mature, dependable, and able to get along with others.
