General Summary:
The Patient Attendant provides indirect patient care under the immediate direction of the Registered Nurse (RN).
Essential Job Functions*:
- Performs patient sitting for patients requiring 1:1 after successful completion of required learning activities- MOAB and De-escalation training.
- Prepares room for patient arrival insuring all necessary equipment is replenished.
- Greets patient upon arrival, insures call bell, bed alarm, side rails and white board are completed as appropriate
- Assist patients getting ready for discharge by gathering their belongings and assisting them to their vehicle.
- Assists with hourly rounding and room safety checks.
- Delivers meal trays and sets up patients to eat.
- Assists with lifting and positioning of patients.
- Assists with transporting patients.
- Answers call lights and directs patient needs to the appropriate resource.
- Stocks departments as needed.
- Answers phones and handles calls appropriately.
- Participates/Engages patients in activities such as playing cards, puzzles, ambulation, etc.
- Other indirect patient care duties as assigned.
- Attends and participates in department/hospital meetings as required.
- Complies with hospital and departmental policies, procedures, regulations and standards as related to job.
- Demonstrates hospital’s stated mission and values. Actively and appropriately participates in problem-solving identification and resolution, both intra- and inter-departmentally.
- Meets department customer service standards and strives to enhance the level of customer service provided.
Qualifications:
- Education
Required: High school diploma or equivalent
- Work Experience
Preferred: Previous experience in a hospital setting serving the same age/type of patient population.
- Other Skills/Knowledge
Required: Demonstrated independent judgment in times of need, along with the ability to seek guidance and/or support from appropriate resources.
Computer literacy. Ability to write clearly and concisely. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
