Job Summary

Performs receptionist, registration, and clerical duties associated with direct and scheduled patient admissions. 

Supports Patient Access Management with assigned duties to include but are not limited to work schedules, staff time and attendance
Assists Patient Access leadership with staff training, mentoring, as well as QA and missed opportunities
Assists in creating and working various reports and tasks, monitoring department and staff performance and productivity
Communicates often with physician offices, nursing staff and other appropriate personnel regarding admissions and discharges as necessary
Verifies patient insurance benefits and obtains precertifications/authorizations as necessary.
Determines and accepts required payments, including co-pays and deductibles and acts as patient financial counselor as needed for proper follow up collection activities
Supports Patient Access Management with assigned duties to include but are not limited to work schedules, staff time and attendance, patient registrations in various work areas as assigned such as the ED, Front Admitting, Surgery Center and Skilled Nursing Unit
Assists Patient Access leadership with staff training, mentoring, as well as QA and missed opportunities
Assists in creating and working various reports and tasks, monitoring department and staff performance and productivity, providing insight into unbilled and denied accounts
Communicates often with physician offices, insurance companies and payers, nursing staff and other appropriate personnel regarding admissions and discharges as well as obtaining authorizations, consents and other documents
Verifies patient insurance benefits and obtains pre-certifications/authorizations as necessary. Determines and accepts required payments, including co-pays and deductibles and acts as patient financial counselor as needed for proper follow up collection activities
Assumes on call responsibilities to ensure adequate staffing and availability for any problem solving needs that may arise. 

Works closely and professionally with nursing and ancillary departments in an effort to maintain a teamwork approach.

Responsible for filling in as needed at front counter, registration area, PBX switchboard, ER registration or other areas as assigned to include nights and weekends, schedule TBD.

Minimum Education
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Required Skill
Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Must have some customer service and medical office experience preferred.

Minimum Work Experience
2-4 years healthcare related experience required.
2 years experience in HMS/MedHost required.
