Job Description
Job Title: Patient Access Representative
Department: Patient Services
Supervisor: Health Center Manager
Location: On-site at Washington, DC
Classification: Non-Exempt/Hourly
Synopsis: The Patient Access Representative performs front office activities for the health center, including patient scheduling, greeting, collecting monies, distributing mail, addresses telephone encounters, answering phone calls, managing provider populations and recalls, facilitating communication between patients and staff, registration, insurance verification, medical referrals, receiving and posting payments, entering data and documents into the electronic medical record.
Qualifications Required Education and Experience- High School diploma or equivalent
- Minimum (2) years of experience working in a clinical setting
- Medical terminology, excellent internal and external customer service, and ability to work with the diverse and underserved population
- Experience performing insurance verification and benefits eligibility
- Medical Assistant
- Proficient in electronic health records and Microsoft Office
- Bilingual – English and Spanish
- CPR or BLS certification - willingness to provide within 90-days of employment
Preferred Skills/Abilities/Certifications/Licenses

Duties and Responsibilities
- Greets and screens all patients and visitors in a professional, friendly, and timely manner according to LCDP protocol
- Answers multi-line telephone system in a prompt, courteous fashion, directing calls to the designated person and taking messages
- Schedule patient appointments in the electronic scheduling system
- Verifying insurance eligibility and benefits accurately entering all patient demographic information and insurance information into the electronic medical record
- Educate, obtain, and scan into the electronic health record all signed self-attestation forms
- Assist with medical referrals, tracking, and follow-up on the patient population
- Verify patient’s insurance and benefits to identify patients covered by third-party payers before appointments and payment collection at the time of service – copayment, deductible, and coinsurance
- Appointment confirmation and recalls daily. In partnership with the Intake Worker and Benefits Specialist team, notifies of patient’s re-certification requirements and overdue documentation, and sliding fee scale based on upcoming appointments
- Document all patient encounters in their electronic medical record
- Respond to telephone encounters and messages daily
- Collects and posts patient’s account balance payment
- Reconciles all receipts and prepares daily report
- Prepares slips for all daily receipts
- Completes accurate paperwork and transactions according to LCDP policies and procedures
- Answers routine questions and issues from patients; forwards more complex questions to the Health Center Manager or appropriate department
- Completes assigned tasks and responsibilities within established guidelines and scope of practice
- Attends required training to increase and maintain skills
- Attends monthly meetings and LCDP’s activities
- Enforce LCDP’s policies and procedures to patients as needed
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer and handling a high volume of incoming and outgoing calls
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
