Job description:
Seeking a certified PATHOLOGISTS' ASSISTANT to join a high-quality, engaged pathology team with two grossing techs right outside of the city in a community based hospital with an academic feel. Grossing room and frozen section coverage, rotating grossing residents, no autopsies, no weekends or holidays, and no call!
Day shifts with varying start times; Mon-Fri The Pathologists’ Assistant performs a wide variety of tasks in processing of the full range of human surgical pathology specimens. Includes gross description and dissection, submitting appropriate diagnostic sections, and when necessary review of the case at sign-out with a pathologist. Provides instruction on gross anatomy, appropriate specimen orientation, tissue selection, cryotomy, and staining for stat intraoperative diagnosis by pathologist.
Requirements:
Master’s Degree from NAACLS accredited program required. - AAPA approved Pathologists’ Assistant Training Program. - PA(ASCP) certification required
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry or a related science
Completion of a NAACLS accredited PA program is a plus
Certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathology is strongly preferred
2+ years of grossing experience small biopsies and complex surgical cases
No experience required with the completion of a NAACLS accredited PA program
Experience in a high volume clinical laboratory environment is preferred
Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems are a plus
Knowledge of quality control and quality assurance processes
Strong communication skills; both written and verbal
High level of attention detail along with strong organizational skills
Knowledge of hazardous waste management and personal protection measures
Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen
Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
