Lathrop GPM LLP, one of the nation’s leading law firms, has an immediate opening for an experienced Intellectual Property Patent Specialist with U.S. Filing experience. This position could work from any of our locations, but ideally from either our Chicago, Kansas City, or Minneapolis locations.

• Maintain assigned client portfolios, including all filings and correspondence for U.S. prosecution

• Responsible for preparation and filing of U.S. Provisional filings along with all formality documents required

• Responsible for preparing and filing all prosecution documents with the USPTO

• Responsible for preparing non-substantive prosecution documents (pre-exam responses, Request to Correct Inventorship, etc.) for filing with the USPTO

• Communicate directly with clients regarding routine or procedural patent prosecution events

• Maintain the integrity of electronic data relating to clients’ intellectual property in accordance with firm policy and procedures

• Management of all client (U.S.) filing deadlines and proactive attention to one’s docket

• Responsible for sending dockets reminders to attorneys, patent agents, and technical specialists

• Be able to work both independently and as part of a team to best meet the client’s needs

• Other duties as assigned

Requirements:
  • Strong knowledge of all phases of the U.S. patent process
  • Proficient in Private PAIR, EFS-Web, and Patent Center
  • Relevant experience in an IP practice or equivalent combination of education and experience is required Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Paralegal certificate desired
  • Successful employee will demonstrate sound technology skills, problem-solving skills, prioritization skills, customer service ethic, listening skills, written and verbal communication skills, ability to effectively interact successfully with all levels within the Firm, and ability to handle multiple, competing, and changing priorities

This position will support multiple time zones. Interested candidates will be expected to work outside of scheduled hours as needed.
