We are hiring a Patent Agent with a deep scientific background who has demonstrated experience in IP and Patent Evaluation within the life sciences industry. Reporting to the Vice President, Legal, the Patent Agent will interact with various cross-functional scientific leadership teams to develop Metagenomi's patent portfolio. This position is located in Emeryville, California.
How you'll contribute:- Interact with R&D at all levels, including group leaders and team members, to identify patent-worthy inventions and proactively capture intellectual property
- Attend scientific team meetings to monitor the progress of data generation for various patent portfolios
- Contribute to the preparation and prosecution of patent applications
- Provide support during licensing or financial negotiations
- Build strong, collaborative relationships with internal teams and stakeholders
- Be a strategic contributor to IP due diligence, technology assessments, and analyses in potential strategic transactions, including M&A and licensing
- Maintain and manage patent procedures and process databases
- Provide general support to the Vice Presidents of the Legal team in all matters relating to intellectual property.
- Advanced degree in cell or molecular biology, immunology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, cancer biology, pharmacology, genetics, or biomedical engineering
- At least two years of biotech (law firm or in-house) experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications
- Current membership, in good standing, with the Patent Bar
- Excellent technical writing abilities, experience preparing patent applications, contractual agreements, scientific reports, and presentations
- Excellent communication, organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to strategically educate and support fellow employees
- Self-directed and proactive, comfortable executing multiple projects independently and in collaboration with others
- Excellent project and time management skills with the ability to multitask and balance priorities.
California Pay Transparency Disclosure:
This position is classified as an exempt salaried position under the Federal Labor Standards Act. The anticipated base salary $120,000 to $150,000. You will also be eligible to receive equity, bonuses, and a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits depending on the position offered. Please note that individual total compensation for this position will be determined at the Company's sole discretion and may vary based on location, skill level, years and depth of relevant experience, and education.
