Pastry Chef

Job Description:

  • Weigh flour and other ingredients to prepare various sweet and savory items
  • Decorate cakes with glazes, icings, buttercream and edible toppings
  • Corporate recipes and specs with tremendous freedom for creativity
  • Mix dough, prepare fillings and glaze pastries
  • Bake different bread types
  • Using state of the art ovens to ensure proper baking
  • Mix various ingredients to create fillings for cakes and pies (e.g. chocolate ganache, caramel sauce and fruits)
  • Shape dough to prepare different types of pastries, including croissants, cookies and sweet rolls
  • Prepare custom-made pastries based on guests’ preferences
  • Recommend recipes to renew our menu and attract more customers (e.g. gluten-free or vegan desserts)
  • Track food supplies and place orders, as needed
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn our food and recipes as we want them prepared
  • Ability to multi-task and work well under pressure while maintain quality and consistency
  • Respect and knowledge of all cooking equipment, tools and vessels need to complete one’s job
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of allergies and cross contamination
  • Ability to read, listen, speak, instruct and actively communicate with the rest of the team
  • Must be reliable, hard-working and understand their value to the total team
  • Arrive to work on time and in proper uniform
  • Excellent communication skills with other team members during the shift
  • Maintain kitchen work areas, equipment, and utensils in clean and orderly condition
  • Demonstrate good personal hygiene as well as cleaning and sanitizing skills

Additional Requirements:

  • Experience as a Baker, Pastry Chef or similar role
  • Familiarity with all professional kitchen equipment, including mixers, blenders and dough sheeters
  • Understand food safety practices
  • Experience with cake decoration techniques
  • Excellent time-management skills
  • Ability to remain calm and focused in a fast-paced environment
  • Team spirit, with a customer-focused attitude
  • Flexibility to work for the evening shift
  • Certification from a culinary school is a plus
