Position Description:
Pastry Assistant is responsible for assisting the pastry chef with day to day operations and being the point of contact whenever they are absent. Bake and prepare pastry items according to the specific recipe. You are required to assist the Pastry Chef and all aspects of the pastry team.
Essential Functions and Basic Duties:
- Complete assigned tasks when given and monitor waste
- Assisting in inventory of raw pastry materials
- Comply with all food and safety procedures as well as proper protocols
- Having a working knowledge of ice creams, sorbets, general baking, and plated desserts
- Ability to show classic pastry cooking skills and techniques
- Understanding the DOH health and safety regulations in the kitchen
- Strong and positive work ethic
- Enjoys working on a team and being collaborative
- Ability to follow recipes and production protocols Understands and values the importance of being organized, clean, and detail oriented
Other:
- Regular attendance to be upheld with company standards and is essential to be successful in this position. Employees who do not follow regular attendance will be subject to disciplinary action which may include termination of employment.
- May work extended hours irregular shifts, evening and/or weekend shifts, and holiday work may be required for business needs Upon successful employment, employes are required to comply with company rules and regulations. Any employee who violates the rules and regulations can be subject to disciplinary action which may turn into termination.
Specific job knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Must be able to read and write to facilitate the communication process.
- Ability to walk, stand and continuously perform essential functions for an extended period of time.
- The ability to perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, and walking.
- Be punctual, focused, dedicated, reliable and willing to work a flexible schedule
- Ensure that the kitchen operation procedures and hygiene meet food safety standards and regulations.
- Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace.
- Ability to perform duties within extreme temperature ranges
Physical activities and requirements of this position:
- Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and stretch to fulfill tasks.
- Ability to lift at least 50 lb on a regular basis
- Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.
Qualifications & Standards:
- Education: Culinary diploma or equivalent in experience is strongly preferred
- Experience required: at least 3 years of pastry experience in a NYC restaurant
