JOB DESCRIPTION:
Provide students with learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their academic growth in college and career readiness.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  1. Understand the structure, content, scoring and uses of college readiness tests including PSAT, SAT, ACT, and TSI.
  2. Implement district-approved test prep curriculum and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  3. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
  4. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), Board policies, and administrative regulations.
  5. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of learning styles and needs of students assigned.
  6. Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  7. Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curriculum as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  8. Work with other members of the test preparation team to determine instructional goals, objectives and methods according to District and college readiness standards.
  9. Use college readiness technology to strengthen instruction.
  10. Conduct ongoing assessment of student growth on college readiness test items.
  11. Help students analyze and improve study habits and content needs for test preparation.
  12. Compare pre-test and post-test results of college readiness exams with students.
  13. Create classroom environments conducive to learning and appropriate for academic, physical, social and emotional development of students.
  14. Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and Student Handbook.
  15. Maintain accurate records of student attendance.
  16. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  17. Establish and maintain open communication with students, parents, test prep teachers, and District supervisors.
  18. Establish communication with students and parents about missed instruction and attendance.
  19. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  20. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  21. Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  22. Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  23. Attend and participate in district test prep meetings.
  24. Regular attendance.
  25. Other duties as assigned.

ASSIGNMENTS TO VIRTUAL INSTRUCTION:
  1. Seamlessly integrate District-approved online learning platforms and required software into the planning, delivery, and support of virtual instruction.
  2. Plan, prepare, implement, and evaluate lessons and activities during the standard work hours of the campus at which the teacher is assigned, as well as prolonged or irregular hours.
  3. Be able to communicate with students, parents, and campus and District personnel during the standard work hours of the campus at which the teacher is assigned, as well as prolonged or irregular hours.
  4. Adhere to all professional responsibilities and deadlines including professional communication and responsiveness.
  5. Be flexible, responsive, and positive with students, parents, and staff.
  6. Effectively translate CISD Best Practices into the virtual instructional setting.
  7. Regularly attend and apply District-approved professional development in the most up-to-date practices associated with virtual instruction.
  8. Accurately and timely obtain and report required student data, including attendance, grades, etc.
  9. Dress professionally as you would if you were offering instruction to students in a traditional, in-person setting.
  10. Teach and interact with students from a quiet space, free from distraction, where appropriate confidentiality rules can be followed.
  11. Create a virtual classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  12. Provide small group and tutoring opportunities for students who are experiencing difficulty in their learning.
  13. Support any extracurricular activities for which you are responsible according to District guidelines.
  14. Attend all required campus and District meetings.
EXPERIENCE:
At least one-year of teaching experience
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
  • Bachelor's degree from accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned

Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Ability to teach college readiness test preparation strategies
  • General knowledge of subjects assigned
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
