Job description

The Part-Time Sewing Machine Mechanic (Materials Assistant, CBA Title) will perform service, maintenance, and repair of sewing and sewing-related equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Repair machinery in studio labs for the Fashion Department.
  • Work with faculty to organize classrooms for the specific course needs on a semester by semester basis.
  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections and service on equipment in accordance with an established maintenance schedule.
  • Provide guidance to faculty and students on the proper and safe use of equipment.
  • Assist students with replacing needles, threading machines, and removing jams, as well as issues with dress forms and steam stations.
  • Maintain an accurate record of service history, repairs, and maintenance.

Job Requirements:


Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of professional, mechanic and industry related experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Reasonable fluency with machinery.
  • Must demonstrate hand skills and practical fluency with Sewing Machines and irons. This position requires a strong initiative and the ability to follow through, oversee and complete projects.

Salary

Salary Range: $37.98- $40.68 per hour

The UCE-FIT Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) dictates the compensation, benefits, and conditions of employment. Hiring Rate: $37.98- $40.68 per hour with step increments per Salary Schedule 92, after 18 months of service and annually thereafter.

Work Schedule

Days/Hours: M-F, 20 hours per week, in person; work schedule subject to change based on needs of the department.
