At New Shanghai Restaurant, we need a competent Restaurant Server to take and deliver orders. You’ll be the face of our restaurant and responsible for our customers’ experiences. We're searching for someone who will excel in this capacity and has the perseverance, patience, and personality to succeed.
The duties of a server include welcoming and serving clients, explaining the menus in detail, handling multiple front-of-the-house tasks at once, and collecting the bill. To be a successful server, you should be kind to our customers and make sure they are satisfied with their meals. You should be a team player and able to speak clearly with our kitchen staff to ensure that orders are accurate and delivered on time. If you are able to perform well in fast-paced environments, we’d like to meet you.
Keep in mind that Restaurant Server duties may require working in shifts and/or occasionally during weekends and holidays.
Your ultimate goal will be to provide high-quality service that will help us maintain and attract customers.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare restaurant tables with special attention to sanitation and order
- Present menu and provide detailed information when asked (e.g. about portions, ingredients or potential food allergies)
- Greet and escort customers to their tables
- Take accurate food and drinks orders, using a POS ordering software, order slips or by memorization
- Serve food and drink orders
- Answer questions or make recommendations for complementary products
- Collaborate with other restaurant servers and kitchen staff
- Deal with complaints or problems with a positive outlook
- Let the customers know about the day’s specials
- Check dishes and kitchenware for cleanliness and presentation and report any problems
- Meet with restaurant staff to review daily specials, changes on the menu and service specifications for reservations (e.g. parties)
- Carry dirty plates, glasses and silverware to kitchen for cleaning
- Follow all relevant health department regulations
- Give visitors top-notch customer service
- Cater to guests who require extra attention (e.g. children, elderly)
Qualifications:
- Proven restaurant serving or waitering experience
- Hands-on experience with cashier duties and ordering information system (Square / Toast)
- Basic math skills
- Patience and customer-oriented approach
- Familiarity with health and safety regulations
- Excellent presentation skills
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to perform well in a fast-paced environment
- Active listening and effective communication skills
- Team spirit
- Responsible and trustworthy
- Availability to work in shifts as needed
- High school diploma; food safety training is a plus

Pay: From $15.25 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 30 per week
