Alpha Media is seeking a talented motivated and enthusiastic intern to join our news department as a Part-Time On-Air Talent in our Brookings, South Dakota market location. This will be a paid Internship through the South Dakota Broadcasters Association. This internship will provide hands-on experience in radio broadcasting, news production and learning how to work with a team. You will be helping out in the News Department assisting the News Director with news for all five stations in the market location. The ideal candidate would have some on-air talent experience and is capable of wearing many hats on the programming team and has a passion for radio.

What You Will Learn:
  • How to write and deliver news stories on-air.

  • How radio stations operate and the role of the news department in the overall station structure.

Responsibilities of this position may include:
  • Writing and delivering news updates on-air in a clear, concise and engaging manner.
  • Conducting interviews with news sources and developing stories.
  • Researching and fact-checking news stories.
  • Assisting in the production of news content for on-air and online distribution.
  • Monitoring breaking news and updating coverage as needed.
  • Covering news events.
  • Broadcasting the news.
  • Recording hourly news casts.
  • Engage with listeners via social media and at events.
  • Other duties as assigned by the News Director.
Requirements of this position include the following:
  • Comfortable speaking on-air and conducting interviews.
  • Knowledge of news and current events.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with word processing programs.
  • Must be a team player and work well with management and staff at all levels.
  • Public speaking skills and ability to interact with listeners and clients in a public setting.
  • Excellent problem-solving and prioritizing skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and handle pressures and deadlines.
  • Skilled in the operation of audio and editing software, broadcasting equipment, and other related production equipment.
  • Be a positive member of a tight-knit team.
  • Must be creative and innovative with a strong work ethic.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
