General Description:
Part-time Laborer will be responsible for performing routine duties associated with the day-to-day activities of the operations/maintenance department. Duties include but not limited to manual labor, event set-up and tear-down activities, compliance with equipment handling guidelines, equipment storage, operating mechanical equipment, equipment inspections, general housekeeping and custodial duties, and policing public areas. Position reports to Labor Foreman or MOD.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Works as scheduled; wears complete uniform including name badge.
- To act in a professional manner at all times.
- Maintain radio contact throughout entire shift.
- Maintains service hall; keeps clean/clear of debris from North Promenade to RG&E.
- Responsible for separating trash from recycling, as well as dumping trash in either dumpster or compactor.
- Assist with keeping loading dock both upper and lower clean.
- Lift moderate to heavy amounts of weight in the form of tables, chairs, stanchions, staging and step units, dance floor panels, and exhibition materials.
- Push equipment carts, door panels, and staging/step units as required.
- Cleaning dance floors, carpet, glass, stainless steel, painted surfaces, mirrors, concrete, woodwork, and terrazzo.
- Mopping, stripping, waxing, and sealing vinyl tile and concrete floors.
- Vacuuming and shampooing/extracting carpets.
- Policing and cleaning restroom areas and public areas.
- Dusting and vacuuming office furniture and draperies.
- Walking, standing, sitting, stooping, pushing, pulling, and lifting objects as required.
- Implementation of basic cleaning methods as required in the maintenance of exterior grounds and interior areas.
- Completion of tasks assigned in compliance with basic safety guidelines.
- Sweeping, mopping, and removing dirt, water, and ice as required.
- Performing grounds maintenance during inclement weather as required.
- Completion of tasks and daily assignments as assigned in a cooperative manner.
20. Perform general manual labor associated with set-up, custodial, maintenance, or housekeeping functions.
21. Maintain public image of the Operations/Maintenance Department and the Center at all times.
22. Maintain an irregular work schedule as required by the Labor Foreman for the servicing of scheduled events and routine assignments.
23. Such other duties, functions, special projects, and responsibilities as assigned by the Shift Leader of Labor Foreman.
Additional Responsibilities:
- The Part-time Maintenance Worker shall interact with other employees within established guidelines.
- The Part-time Maintenance Worker shall follow instructions as required and be knowledgeable of policies regarding safety as to working procedures and conditions upon the premises of the Convention Center.
- As a highly visible employee, the Part-time Maintenance Worker shall maintain the public image of the Convention Center as required.
- Position requires individual to stand throughout entire shift; and to reach, bend, stoop, wipe, lift, carry, climb, balance, kneel, crouch, walk, push, pull, and grasp. In addition requires ability to exert up to 100 to 200 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently. This includes carrying items up flights of stairs, and service corridor ramps.
Qualifications:
- Minimum high school education or equivalent required.
- Up to one (1) year experience in a set-up or related position.
- Up to one (1) year experience in a custodial/housekeeping position.
- Ability to demonstrate basic set-up techniques with a working knowledge of set-up principles, procedures, and equipment use.
- Ability to demonstrate basic cleaning techniques.
- Ability to perform manual tasks requiring physical strength and perform reasonably heavy labor.
- Ability to operate heavy mechanized equipment.
- Ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions accurately and work independently.
- Related training and experience gained which offers a further understanding of set-up, custodial house - and ground–keeping techniques is desirable.
