Located in North Minneapolis, Appetite For Change uses food as a tool to build health, wealth, and social change. We bring people together to learn, cook, eat, and grow food, creating change that lasts. Since our founding in 2012, AFC has been bringing community members together to cook together, break bread, and build social connections while training our youth for the future through workforce development and participation in one of our three urban agriculture spaces.
Position Summary
The grants consultant is responsible for the support of Appetite For Change’s (AFC) development goals by continuing the current grant process, systems, and reporting to include; drafting and submitting targeted and predetermined grant proposals in a timely, thorough, and compelling manner to ensure the on-going funding of AFC programs. In addition to the submission and management of designated grants, the grants consultant will be expected to research new grant opportunities, specifically federal grants.
Position Responsibilities:
Grant Writing
- Research, draft, edit, and submit approximately 8-10 LOIs, grants, and proposals per month or as directed.
- Meet all proposal deadlines by determining priorities and target dates for information gathering, drafting, editing, revising, and submitting complete and compelling proposals in a timely manner
- Write and edit executive summaries, conclusions, and organizational and program descriptions specific to each grant application, utilizing present AFC grant language and mission statement.
Grant Reporting
- Maintain the AFC grant calendar with essential grant information, deadlines, reporting deliverables, and collateral for archives.
- Work closely with AFC staff to track program data and ensure donor ethics.
- Work with the Director of Advancement to ensure current data is maintained in AFC Salesforce CRM to support data health, integrity, and accurate reporting.
- Assist in the production of funder invoices as necessary
Pipeline Development
- Identify other grant funding opportunities for AFC, including the development of an annual grant strategy at local and national levels to include federal and government grantmakers.
- Prospect new funding sources and opportunities through lapsed foundations
- The Grants Consultant will meet with the Director of Advancement weekly to review deliverables and reporting requirements.
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of Grant Writing experience, with a track record of successful funding
- Exceptional writing skills for Grant Writing and related communications, supported by strong skills in proofreading and copyediting
- Able to effectively utilize creative, persuasive, and compelling writing skills to translate AFC, its mission, and its programs to meet institutional funder guidelines and program priorities
- Detail-oriented with strong research skills and knowledge of information sources
- Perform miscellaneous projects and complete various tasks related to grants and grants management as needed by management.
- Familiarity with Salesforce, excel
