JOB SUMMARY:
The ideal candidate must be able to demonstrate good problem-solving skills, be able to multi-task, and have a high level of self-motivation. Good reading, writing, and math abilities are required.
Employees are responsible for following all Company policies and procedures. These policies and procedures will include adherence to regulatory standards such as CAP, CLIA and OSHA, including safety standards in performing all aspects of the functions below.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
All Lab Technician/Technologist positions:- Have an advanced understanding of laboratory techniques with an emphasis on department specific techniques.
- Possess high-level oral and written communication and problem-solving skills to communicate effectively with co-workers, managers, clients, and pathologists.
- Must be able to multi-task, accurately, and with a focus on quality.
- Must be proficient in basic computer skills and familiar with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Must be able to work with minimal supervision and the ability to self-direct.
- Operate department specific equipment, to include daily and routine maintenance.
- Perform daily and routine department specific QC documentation.
- Prepare laboratory reagents and solutions; follow appropriate disposal protocols.
- Participate in validations and department-specific goals.
- Successful participation in proficiency testing.
- Maintain department specific competency.
- Comply with all safety procedures and participate in required training.
- Assist in ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.
- Troubleshoot relevant equipment and technical matters.
- Assist in other duties and projects as assigned by department manager.
DEPARTMENT-SPECIFIC – FISH Technologist
- Responsible for FISH slide preparation, probe preparation and addition to samples, hybridization, slide washing, scanning, analysis.
- Responsible for interpretation of results using ISCN nomenclature and report preparation for pathologist for review.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS, ENVIRONMENT:
- In exercising essential job functions the employee must be able to exert up to 40 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force routinely to move objects.
- Employee may be exposed to blood products, knife cuts, hazardous waste and chemical fumes, so appropriate precautionary measures must be followed at all times. Certain situations require eye protection, mask, lab coat and or gloves. Hazardous Waste training required.
- Ability to pass a standard color vision test.
- Work with chemicals under fume hood.
- Must be able to perform repetitive motion.
- Extended periods sitting looking at images on a computer required.
- Extended periods of standing performing sample preparation.
- Most molecular testing requires darkroom work.

- Microscopes – fluorescent and bright field

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
NoneMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education:At least 60 hours of relevant college courses (medical laboratory technology, chemistry, biology or cytogenetics)
BS degree in a life science related discipline (Preferred)
Experience:
Molecular biology experience least one year
At least one year FISH or cytogenetics experience (Preferred)
MUST be qualified to perform high complexity testing (See Education requirements listed above)
Level I: less than 5 years of relevant work experience
II: 6-12 years of relevant work experience
III: 13+ years of relevant work experience
(Experience to be determined at the discretion of the Molecular Manager)
