Position Summary


The Seattle Colleges are looking for innovative and dedicated faculty members who have a demonstrated commitment to working within a college community that is diverse and serves students from a broad spectrum of socioeconomic and academic backgrounds.

Candidates should be willing to teach in a variety of formats such as in-class, hybrid, online and varied class times including days, evenings, and weekends according to program needs.

This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement with representation by AFT-Seattle.

A complete application will include:

  • An attached resume
  • An attached cover letter addressing how you meet the duties, responsibilities, and requirements for the position
  • Philosophy of teaching statement demonstrating a commitment to supporting diverse student learners (no more than one page)
  • Unofficial transcripts (graduate school only)
  • List of courses taught and/or equivalent library experience, listed by college and year/quarter (Word file or Excel)
  • Contact information for three professional references

Required application materials must be completed and submitted online.

Essential Functions


Library faculty deliver reference and library instruction and related work in face-to-face and online modes. Successful applicants will have the ability to work effectively with students, colleagues, staff and others in a campus climate that promotes cultural diversity and multicultural understanding in an urban environment. Hours vary depending on department need. Schedule may include weekends and evenings.
Specific reference desk and teaching assignments will depend on scheduling needs. Successful applicants may be invited to teach at North Seattle, South Seattle, or Seattle Central College.

Qualifications

  • An understanding of the goals and role of the community college.
  • Demonstrated ability and commitment to academic librarianship and teaching information literacy
  • MLIS from an ALA accredited institution
  • A demonstrated commitment to working within a college community that is diverse and serves students from a broad spectrum of socioeconomic and academic backgrounds.
  • Innovative teaching methods including the use of technology and collaborative learning.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with others in a professional setting.

Physical Requirements


Ability to perform a range of physical motions, exerting up to 25 pounds; lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds; standing, walking, sitting for long periods of time, kneeling, squatting, and stooping; and traversing up and down stairs.
