The City of Birmingham (EOE) is seeking qualified applicants for the part-time Clerical Assistant position with the City's Clerk's office.
The part-time Clerical Assistant performs activities related to voter registration and assists with the administration of all Federal, state and local elections in accordance with State of Michigan Election Law. Responsible for a wide variety of office duties including, but not limited to, answering citizen questions, processing permit applications, indexing and maintaining legal files and other official city records, sorting and distributing mail and providing great customer service. Assists with the planning and execution of the annual Celebrate Birmingham Parade. Will require utilization of software applications including the State Qualified Voter File, BS&A, LaserFiche, and Microsoft Office Suite. Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of an Associate's Degree, or two (2) years of degree-oriented college coursework. At least two (2) years of related professional experience, including substantial contact with the public, and excellent customer service skills. Working knowledge of Federal, State, and local laws, rules, regulations, and procedures relating to the registration of voters and the administration of elections in the State of Michigan. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and utilize problem-solving skills to assist the public and other team members. Ability to manage the processing of Absent Voter applications and ballots, Passports, animal licenses, FOIA requests, as well as other city licenses and permits.
Schedule & Wages
This position is scheduled up to 19 hours per week, and requires the ability to work additional hours during election season. The hourly rate starts at $20.38 per hour.
