Job Summary:
The role of the Child Advocate is to provide non-judgmental support, validations, and encouragement to children participating in Cherokee Family Violence Center programs. The advocate will provide care for children in our housing, shelter, and community programs.

Essential Job Functions:
The following is a summary of the essential functions of the job. The employee may perform other duties, both essential and non-essential, not mentioned below; and specific responsibilities may change from time to time.
- Supervise and monitor safety of children in their care.
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
- Protect confidentiality of client information and shelter location as per policies and Georgia statutes.
- Help children maintain good hygiene.
- Change the diapers of infants and toddlers.
- Organize activities so that children can learn about the world and explore interests.
- Develop schedules and routine to ensure that children have enough physical activity, rest, and playtime.
- Watch for signs of emotional or developmental concerns in children and bring the problems to the attention of supervisor.
- Plan and organize child activities both on property and off.
- Keep records of children’s progress, routines, and interests.
- Develop relationships with families of child clients and maintain regular dialogue with family members about the child’s progress in the program, challenges, or other the needs of the child.
- Participate in and assist with facilitation of group activities.
- Attend meetings with youth and their families, e.g., school, medical, mental health, substance abuse, court, etc.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed:
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Ability to handle crisis situations in a calm, deliberate manner
- Familiarity with community resources and service providers
- Ability to work with a diverse group of youth and their parents.
Education and Formal Training:
High School Diploma
Work Experience:
Minimum of two years’ experience working with children.
