Job description

General Description

The purpose of this class within the organization is to ensure the health and safety of animals and residents by enforcing animal-related ordinances, rules and regulations.

This class works under close supervision according to set procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

Essential Functions:

Strives to be efficient and effective at balancing and meeting the common needs and reasonable expectations of core constituents.

Contributes towards the department's mission by continuously striving to meet expectations, strategic goals and objectives.

Answers and responds to animal complaints from by phone or radio.

Prepares reports, warrants, and summons; represents the City at court.

Picks up and transports animals to animal shelter or to an animal hospital.

Investigates reports of animal abuse; conducts interviews and collects evidence for potential prosecution of individuals in court.

Performs investigations on complaints and prepares reports on incidents.

Enforces City animal policies and ordinances including but not limited to cruelty to animals, dangerous/vicious animals, and animal bites.

Appears and testifies in court for citations issued to individuals that challenge the charges of violations of the City animal codes and ordinances.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.

No prior experience is required.

Special Certifications and Licenses:

Driver's License
