Priority consideration will be given to any person receiving State public assistance under the CalWORKS program. The Park Interpretive Specialist reporting location is Clear Lake State Park at 4300 Soda Bay Rd, Kelseyville CA 95451 . The Park Interpretive Specialist works under the supervision of the State Park Peace Officer Supervisor (Ranger).
The Park Interpretive Specialist is expected to work weekends, holidays, and evenings if necessary and assigned days off may vary from month to month. The normal work hours are 8-hour shifts occurring between the hours of 8:00 am to 10:00 pm, up to five days per week including weekends, holidays and during special events. This is an Actual Time Worked (ATW) position working approximately up to 40 hours per week for a maximum of 1500 hours or 189 days in a 12-month period. This is a uniformed position, and the successful candidates will be required to purchase and wear a State Parks uniform. This position is seasonal with an approximate start date of May 1, 2024, and extending through late 2024.
The primary duties associated with this position include providing tours to park visitors, collection of fees and operating the front counter in the visitor center; producing reports; facilitating school programs; volunteer oversight; collection activities; and working on special projects. This position greets the public, provides visitor information, and answers phone inquiries. Candidates for this position should have good public speaking skills, an interest in California history, and education in natural science or human history or prior experience as an interpreter or educator.
The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.
This position requires a valid Class C driver's license. You must answer the questions addressing your driver's license on your application. Ensure you provide your driver's license number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions on your application.
