GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
This seasonal position performs a variety of work in support of the daily activities and programs of the Parks and Recreation Department. Performs uniformed patrol and surveillance of the park system by vehicle and foot. Responsible for enforcing regulations in Northville Parks. Also responsible for opening and closing park bathrooms and maintaining parks and pavilions.

Work is performed under the supervision and direction of the Parks & Facilities Supervisor.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES & FUNCTIONS
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential duties: (These examples do not include all of the duties which the employee may be expected to perform.)
- Patrol park areas by checking for misuse, undesirable activities, hazardous situations, and report findings to the Parks & Facilities Supervisor and Police Department as needed. Enforce the parks rules and ordinances when individuals threaten to reduce the enjoyment of others.
- Respond to calls for assistance from park users; deal with park users’ complaints and questions. Provide friendly and courteous service to the public at all times.
- Report violations outside of ranger’s authority and jurisdiction to appropriate authorities. Promptly complete necessary reports whenever a 911 call is made.
- Complete and submit Park Ranger daily logs and also maintain gas and mileage logs.
- Perform all functions of opening and closing all park bathrooms including, but not limited to: sweeping, washing, disinfecting, mopping floors, cleaning walls, ceilings, partitions and fixtures, and filling paper product dispensers.
- Collect trash, separate and properly dispose of garbage and recyclable materials. Pick up and properly dispose of litter.
- Assist in the maintenance and repair of building plumbing, including unclogging toilets and sinks, and changing faucet washers.
- Perform all functions of setup, breakdown, and cleanup of park pavilion usage.
- Assist with setup, breakdown and cleanup of all or various indoor and outdoor Recreation programs, open and close buildings when needed.
- Maintain vehicles, work sites, maintenance shop, and storage areas in clean safe condition.
- Perform related work as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

- A high school diploma or equivalent; or any combination of experience and training, which will provide the minimum qualifications.
- Must be available to work evening and weekend shifts.
- Desired basic knowledge of plumbing, vehicle maintenance, building maintenance, and janitorial functions.
- Ability to communicate effectively and establish good working relationships with the public and other employees.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Must possess strong interpersonal, conflict resolution, and customer service skills.
- Must be able to track and maintain an organized and accurate daily log of ordinance violations and activities.
- Effective time management skills with minimal supervision.
- Must possess a current, valid Michigan Driver’s license with a driving history that does not create liability concerns i.e. Convictions or reckless driving, careless driving, suspended license or convictions involving drinking and impaired driving.
- Must possess sound judgment in determining situations that require public safety intervention.
- Ability to convey and understand information effectively and promptly through speaking, hearing, reading, and writing.
- Ability to critically assess situations, solve problems, and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Awareness of first aid practices.
- Ability to acquire CPR/AED certification.

In order to properly perform the essential functions of this job, the employee is frequently required to: stand, walk, stoop and kneel. It is crucial to the outcome of job tasks that the employee is able to: talk and hear; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and to produce written documents; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects of light to moderate weight.
The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. While performing the duties of this job, the employee typically works in an outdoor setting. The noise level in the work environment will vary.
