POSITION DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Parent Partner
REPORTS TO: Family Engagement Coordinator SALARY: $16.00/hr
TYPE: Part Time; Hourly STATUS: Exempt Non-Exempt
GENERAL PURPOSE
This position is primarily responsible for providing formal and informal support to parents who are referred to the Healthy Start Coalition of Flagler and Volusia Counties, Inc. by Community
Partnership for Children. The Parent Partner mentors, coaches, and assists families as they navigate the child dependency court system. The peer-to-peer position incorporates lived experience with the child welfare system in order to provide hope, mutual respect, and collaboration. The Parent
Partner voice is critical to developing policies and practices that meet family needs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES
1. Provides support, guidance, and understanding of the child welfare system for appropriate cases referred by Community Partnership for Children.
2. Works intensively with birth parents to promote engagement in case plan activities via face to face visits, letter, emails, and/or phone calls.
3. Attends case transfer conferences, court, family team meetings, mental health consultations, and other activities that are requested by the supervisor, family, or case manager.
4. Helps maintain connections between parents and children by observing and advocating for child and family rights.
5. Assisting in goal reunification and/or the development of appropriate alternative permanent plans.
6. Attends and participates in external meeting, workgroups, committees, teams, and boards as required.
7. Represents Parent Partners professionally- both with families and in the community.
8. Provides random UA, child abuse background, and criminal background checks as requested.
9. Identifies and assists in recruitment of parents as parent leaders.
10. Brings the Parent Partner voice to child welfare policy and practice development by abiding by the statewide Parent Partner Approach Handbook standards and Code of Ethics and assists with coordinating the Family Engagement Advisory Board (FEAB) meetings.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES
1. Flexibility to travel and attend speaking engagements.
2. Facilitates parent led peer support groups and educational classes such as parenting skills.

3. Maintains data and information regarding families receiving support services.
4. Upholds a positive relationship with CPC case management and community partners.
5. Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS/COMPETENCIES/SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Education:
High School Diploma / GED required.
Qualifications:
1. The parent must have been reunited with children for at least one year (training may be started after 6 months of reunification).
2. Have at least one year to resolve issues related to termination of parental rights, or other permanency decisions where children were not reunited with the prospective Parent
Partner.
3. Have no child welfare involvement for safety issues.
4. Have no founded child abuse report since assuming the role of Parent Partner or Parent
Partner in Training.
5. Have been continuously substance free for one year.
6. The Parent Partner will be disqualified if founded of sexual abuse, listed on the sex abuse registry, or convicted in the death of a child.
7. Candidates who do not meet requirements but have education and experience in Child
Welfare Services will be reviewed on an individual basis.

Computer Skills:
- Intermediate proficiency in MS Word
- Beginner proficiency in MS Excel

Math Ability:
Level 1: Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and

100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
Language Ability:
Level 3: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups.
Reasoning Ability:
Level 3: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Licenses and/or Certifications:
- Valid Florida Driver’s License with a safe driving record and current private auto insurance policy.
- Ability to pass a Level II Background Screening and Drug Screening.
- The Parent Partner is required to complete training in the following areas:
- The Child Welfare System (incl. mandated reporting)

- Boundaries and Self-Care

Initial trainings to be completed within one (1) year of employment.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Physical and Environmental Requirements:
1. Ability to sit, stand, walk and reach with hands and arms
2. Ability to occasionally lift and /or move up to 30 pounds
3. Vision abilities required by this job include: close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth
perception, and the ability to adjust focus
4. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate (examples: business office with
computers and printers, light traffic).
