Job description

About the Position: Fort Drum, the home of the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), is located in Northern New York, one of the most historically unique & geographically beautiful areas of the United States, offering bountiful outdoor recreational opportunities from hunting & fishing to winter sports of all types. Fort Drum is approximately 30 miles from Canada, with the Great Lakes to the west, the Adirondack Mountains to the east, and the St. Lawrence River & Thousand Islands in between.Qualifications:

In order to qualify, you must meet the education/ and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document.
GS-09 Specialized Experience:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service which includes; 1) Analyzing case files against case litigation worthiness standards; 2) Correcting case file deficiencies, such as missing documents and inconsistent material before sending the case to the trial attorneys; 3) Coordinating with investigators conducting review of cases with victims of crimes; 4) preparing legal documents, recommendations, and/or correspondence, such as drafting briefs, pleadings, and findings.
OR
Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Paralegal Studies, Criminal Justice or Law, etc.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
GS-11 Specialized Experience:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal service which includes experience performing paralegal or legal work which demonstrates 1) Working directly with law enforcement, corrections, and other applicable agencies to assist installation personnel and attorneys with legal actions; 2) Providing the victim support during trial preparation interviews; 3) Prepares and organizes trial exhibits as required, such as statistical charts and photographic exhibits; 4) preparing legal documents, recommendations, and/ or correspondence, such as drafting briefs; 5) conducting research, analysis, and evaluation of data in response to complex or sensitive requests.
OR
Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Paralegal Studies, Criminal Justice or Law, etc.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent.

Education: FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
