Panel Shop Lead

The Controls Panel Shop Lead plays a critical role on the Ensight Controls team. The Controls Panel team’s primary purpose being is to build and install industrial electrical panels, troubleshoot machine issues and support the engineering/controls team. The Controls Panel Shop Lead will be the primary point of contact regarding jobs in the controls shop. This includes being the contact for inventory oversight and serving as the primary trainer for control panel team members, as well as quality inspector for jobs completed by the Panel Shop.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Set workload priorities according to equipment ship dates.
• Works closely with the shop floor to adjust priorities and support there needs.
• Manage work schedules
• Build, troubleshoot and install machine electrical systems including PLC, VFDs, solenoids, servos, control panels, control stations and all machine related control devices including field wiring on all machinery produced.
• Cut, strip, crimp and wire 26 AWG – 12 AWG per electrical prints with a high degree of accuracy
• Perform High Voltage wiring as needed (14 AWG – 2 AWG normally, 1/0 – 300 MCM occasionally)
• Read, understand and utilize various engineering and manufacturing documents including bills of materials, assembly drawings, assembly instructions, wiring schematics and diagrams
• Straighten, align, and organize wire to professional standards
• Dimensionally lay out back panels and externally mounted devices. Mount devices to back panels and enclosures using a variety of methods including drilling and tapping steel
• Operate computerized terminal, wire labeling and engraving equipment
• Check work to ensure error-free products
• Keep red-lines of any changes required during manufacturing and turn in to supervisor/engineer on completion of the project
• Train new employees to Ensight’s panel wiring standards.
• Provide revision training to current team members on changes in standards and practices
• Ensure that controls Panel Shop employees are working in a safe manner, and properly utilizing tools
• Inspect panels to verify work is being produced per drawings specifications, having a professional appearance and conforming with standards adopted by Ensight.
• Monitor inventory usage to identify potential issues, reduce project delays through inventory management and recognize components that can be discontinued or updated.
• Work closely with Shipping and Receiving, providing assistance with parts locations and organization.
• Monitor adherence to controls panel schedule and identify potential shortfalls in output or deadline risks.
• Serve as a key resource on the Plant Manager’s team to ensure on time delivery of equipment and projects.
• May be asked to perform other duties as needed.

Qualifications

Education

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Associates degree in electronics, preferred.
• One year of lead experience, preferred.

Specialized Knowledge and Experience

•  Experience reading and interpreting electrical schematics / diagrams preferred.
•  Electrical troubleshooting, control voltage, including up to 480VAC preferred.
•  Proficiency using hand and power tools in a safe manner.
•  Proficiency using precision measurement tools.
•  Good hand dexterity and strength
•  High motivation level and ability to multi-task
•  Strong attention to detail and organization
•  Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English without the aid of an interpreter.
•  Familiarity with stainless steel metal fabrication is a plus.
