Under general supervision, the Painter Technician is responsible for applying coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer to decorate and protect exterior surfaces, trimmings, and fixtures of buildings and structures throughout Liberty University campus. Working independently and exercising good judgment and discretion is essential to this job.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
1. Essential personnel; you are required to work during snow events and major on campus events. Performs snow removal activities as assigned, such as shoveling, salting, etc.
2. Reports to work at the required time and performs duties as assigned by the painting Supervisor and/or Lead.
3. Familiar with the standard concepts, practices and procedures of the painting trade.
4. Ensures proper care in the use of maintenance of equipment and supplies.
5. Smooths and prepares surfaces for painting including sanding, removing old paint using paint removers, scrapers, wire brushes, or heat gun.
6. Tape, float, and texture walls and ceilings.
7. Applies coats of paint, varnishes, and stains to interior and/ or exterior surfaces with brush and roller.
8. Assists with filling nail holes, cracks, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster or other fillers using a caulking gun or a putty knife.
9. Primes surfaces as necessary.
10. Applies coats of paint, varnishes, and stains to interior and/ or exterior surfaces with brush and roller.
11. Erect scaffolding or set up ladder to perform tasks above ground level.
12. Some knowledge of equipment, materials, methods, practices, procedures and tools used in the painting trade.
13. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
14. Assists with the receiving and completing of work orders.
15. Reports to Supervisor or lead technician.
16. Works under immediate supervision.
17. Identifies and communicated problems or defects to the Painting Supervisor and/ or Lead Painter.
18. Ability to work a flexible schedule when needed-some nights and weekends.
19. Must have a valid driver's license.
20. Promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
21. Performs a variety of tasks as assigned.
22. Reports to Supervisor or lead technician.
23. Other duties as assigned.
24. Must provide own hand tools to perform and complete trade related tasks.
25. Remains abreast of existing and emerging technologies, processes, products, services and leading industry performance benchmarks.

Qualifications, Credentials, and Competencies
High school diploma or GED. Minimum of 1+ years of related experience required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Certifications obtained while employed by Liberty University at the expense of the employer will be reimbursed back to the university upon voluntary termination (resignation) for the first 12 months after acquiring it.
Effective communication both verbally and in writing. Ability to intuitively reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature. Excellent computer and organizational skills. Regularly required to lift 50+ pounds. Proof of a valid Virginia driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required. Must be able to work on weekends, holidays, and flexible daily/evening hours.
