Job description

Duties

Tour of Duty: Sunday through Thursday from 9pm to 5:30am. Position is subject to receive 10% Night Differential.

This vacancy may also be used to fill a day position under the hours ranging from 5am to 3pm.

This position is emergency essential - Depending on the type of emergency the employee may be required to report to work during emergency situations.


The position may be filled at the Journey-level (WG.09 or WG-10). If starting at the WG-09 level, assignments will be given with the goal of attaining the full performance level.Duties quoted below are at the WG-10 level.

MAJOR DUTIES:

PAINTING PREPARATION:

Performs complex coating work using any of the accepted methods of the trade such as graining, shadowing and shading colors.

In addition to conventional painting treatments of multiple surfaces, such as walls, hallways and bathrooms, applies decorative painting techniques to existing surfaces and to restore decorative surfaces.

Applies primers or sealers to prepare new surfaces, such as bare wood or metal, for finish coats.

Applies paint, stain, varnish, enamel and other finishes to equipment, buildings, decorative walls and doors and/or other structures, using brushes, spray guns or rollers.

Finishing and decorative work shall occur on site or in a paint booth located in a shop.

Mixes and applies epoxy coatings to walls, floor and ceilings.

Cuts and installs glass in windows and picture frames.

Removes and installs vinyl cove base where applicable in the House Office Buildings.

Surface Preparation:

Removes fixtures such as pictures, door knobs, lamps and electric switch covers prior to painting.

Prepares interior and exterior plaster, metal, wood and masonry surfaces. This

Calculates amounts of required materials and paint, based on surface measurements.

Mixes and matches colors of paint, stain or varnish with oil and thinning or drying additives in order to obtain desired colors and consistency.

Uses specialized skills and knowledge to prepare decorative surfaces or artwork for painting or restoration.

Removes old finishes by stripping, sanding, wire brushing or using water and/or abrasive blasting.

Assists in maintaining, repairing and constructing plaster surfaces in historically significant buildings.

Properly prepares subsurface to ensure an even surface when constructing or repairing walls and ceilings.

Performs work associated with the Paint Stabilization Program including set-up, stabilization, cleanup and waste handling.

Erects and dismantles scaffolding, swing stage, aerial work platforms or set up ladders, to work above ground level.

Waterproofs buildings, using water-proofers and caulking as required.

Cleans up the job site by sanding, rubbing and washing surfaces.

Responsible for utilizing a thorough knowledge of and compliance with applicable AOC and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety rules and regulations to ensure that work progresses in a safe manner and to initiate or take corrective action on unsafe conditions in managed areas.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
