Description
The Packaging Manager is responsible for overseeing the floor and the daily success of
the production schedule. They will need to coordinate the efforts of multiple departments
and shifts to assure that downtime is minimized. This includes looking forward days or
weeks to make sure the team is prepared.
The Packaging Manager will continually check in with their teams throughout the day to
make sure the runs are moving smoothly and are up to a satisfactory level of quality.
The primary function of the Packaging Manager is to delegate and manage the entire
day’s production to ensure that all products are meeting internal and external food safety
standards, as well as assist in the flow of the day as often as is required to optimize
production and quality. This includes facilitating schedules of staff, managers, facilities,
CEO and other key personnel to ensure canning downtime is minimized and throughput
is optimized.
The Packaging Manager is expected to develop an intimate knowledge of the mechanics
of the canning line in order to assist with any issues that may arise.
Finally, as the packaging manager is responsible for minimizing downtime, it is expected
that the Packaging Manager do whatever is most strategic to facilitate the smooth
execution of a run and schedule optimization, including stepping in to operate the line as
needed to facilitate employee breaks or run completion.
Key Responsibilities
● Optimize throughput by designing a packaging schedule with the least amount of
complexity for the operators
● Assign staff to the correct positions daily for the successful execution of the plan
● Cover for any positions that are critical to the success of the shifts
● Produce and update a production schedule as frequently as is required to ensure
each shift has a clear understanding of the goals and objectives of the shift
● Ensure the canning quality is satisfactory according to the Canning Spec Sheet
and recorded in a way that is able to be communicated to the customer and pulled
for records.
● Assure that the necessary quality controls are being recorded during the run,
including measuring carbonation levels, monitoring lot and date coding systems,
taste, label heights / shrink, and pasteurization temperatures.
● Coordinate with management and facilities to have coverage for all maintenance,
shift issues, and changeovers.
● Send feedback to the entirety of the department on a weekly basis
● Meet with individual team members to provide feedback, including discussing
performance issues and identifying strengths and weaknesses
● Act as a liaison between the Production, Copacking, and Packaging departments,
making adjustments to the schedule based on production constraints, operator
skillset, and customer requests
● Maintain and update the facility-wide Sanitation Logs (excluding Distribution and
Production)
● Manage the Preventative Maintenance program
● Interviewing, Hiring, and Pay increases for team members
● Training all new team members
● Promote and follow a safety-first mindset
● Other tasks and projects as assigned
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $65,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
