ASAP StartsGLH 4B Intermediate Care/Telemetry Geisinger Lewistown Hospital is a 133-bed hospital located in Central Pennsylvania approximately 30 minutes East of State College, PA. GLH recently became a Primary Stroke Center and also received Level III Trauma designation. This is a 29-bed telemetry nursing unit providing care to patients with a range of acute and chronic health conditions.
Nursing staff manage many drips including Cardizem, Dobutamine, Lasix, Insulin, Heparin, Amiodarone, and Nitroglycerin. Due to the acuity of the patients on this nursing unit, respiratory support needed includes oxygen administration via nasal canula through continuous BiPap. This fast-paced nursing unit experiences high-turnover of patients on a daily basis. The unit utilizes a variety of skill levels to manage the ever-changing demands of the unit and the patients they care for. Nurse patient ratio is 1:4-5 on days and nights. Staffing mix on this unit includes registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, patient care assistants, and unit desk clerks. Care management is also present on the unit Monday Friday during daytime hours and is an active member of the care team. Teamwork is imperative on this nursing unit and the current staff do a phenomenal job working cohesively to provide optimal care to each patient.
