POSITION TITLE: Math Department Chair
LOCATION: Brooke High School
QUALIFICATIONS: Holds a valid teaching certificate, with three years successful teaching experience. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the administration may find appropriate and acceptable.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Administrative Duties
  1. Conducts department and Professional Learning Community meetings as needed using a prepared agenda.
  2. Contacts teachers, as directed by the CTE Director or Principal in order to discuss department work.
  3. Recommends, with the cooperation of teachers, the acquisition of new or additional materials of instruction and software for the department and assists in the scheduling and coordinated usage of these materials.
  4. Recommends to the CTE Director or Principal individual teaching assignments for the members of the department and presents teaching schedule for the department.
  5. Assists with interviews for departmental positions in accordance with instructions supplied by the director of Personnel and the CTE Director or Principal.
  6. Responsible for certifying an annual inventory of instructional supplies and equipment, preparing with teachers a department budget request, approving all department requisitions, supervising the maintenance of department equipment, working with assigned personnel in the formulation of projects and/or requests for available federal or state subsidies. Assists with organizing, printing of programs, presentation ceremonies for CTE Awards Night.
  7. Complies data necessary for the Work-keys Testing, 21st Century performance assessments, placement, credentialing and CTSO's and other data as needed for county, state, and federal accountability.
  8. Fulfills any other unforeseen departmental responsibilities and curricular duties assigned by the CTE Director, Principal, Superintendent, or his designee.
  1. Staff Personnel Duties
  1. Discusses and implements administrative directives with the department.
  2. Orients teachers to departmental policy and other necessary details.
  3. Encourages and stimulates enrollment in professional groups and attendance at professional meetings.
  4. Works with departmental staff in developing long-range plans for the department planning and writing necessary CSO's, benchmark assessments, and other methods of improving the total program of instruction.
  5. Recommends to the guidance department the level placement of students enrolled in the department after consultation with the classroom teacher where applicable.
  6. Reports and analyzes the number of students failed and reasons for failure.
  7. Gives input to assignment of substitute teachers serving in the department.
  8. Delegates duties, as necessary, to accomplish departmental projects and goals.
  9. Confers with individual teachers of the department when necessary to assure that the department is working within the guidelines of administrative directives.
  1. Student Personnel Duties
  1. Responsible for establishing standards and evaluating progress to determine the degree of achievement and need for curricular change.
  2. Makes provision for testing programs within the department and is responsible for its design, execution and distribution when applicable.
  3. Recommends the initiation of curriculum changes.
  4. Supervises the entrance of pupils or pupil work into school approved contests and co-curricular activities pertaining to the department when appropriate.
  5. Provides CTE Director with completer lists, assessments of students, and placement data pertaining to student's profile.
  1. Curriculum Duties
  1. Determines, with teachers, the need for modification and updating of the total departmental programs through constant evaluation which involves the usage of objective data.
  2. Answers inquiries regarding courses of study.
  3. Prepares, with teachers, written curriculum evaluations when necessary.
  4. Recommends continuing education courses.
  5. Integrates the work of the department into the total instructional program of the school.
  6. Suggests, with the cooperation of teachers, books, magazines and pamphlets to be purchased by the school media specialist.
  1. Responsibilities
  1. Provides instructional leadership and support within the school building.
  2. Establishes good public and employee relations.
  3. Maintains professional work habits.
  4. Maintains and upgrades his/her professional skills.
  1. Conditions of Employment
  1. Teachers may be asked for input in the selection of their Department Chairperson.
  2. Serves as a member of countywide Curriculum Organization Committee to Coordinate programs with middle and elementary schools as required by the principal and county.

Term of Employment: 200 days
Salary based on experience and education level per CBOE salary schedule plus competitive benefits
package equal to approximately 35% of direct compensation.
