Position Summary
Responsible for the management of the day-to-day activities for the converting department. Accountable for the safety, quality, productivity, and material handling for assigned shift. The position requires efficient use of labor, materials, machines and the business system to ensure lowest possible cost / production efficiency. In addition, the Converting Lead will seek out opportunities to improve already established manufacturing practices and become a sounding board for production floor issues and participate in management leadership meetings as needed. Responsible for facilitating an environment and culture focused on a commitment to safety and housekeeping, which will reflect the commitment to working towards an injury-free environment.

• Follow quality requirements to meet or exceed specifications.
• Support the Process Engineer in activities to include analysis of departmental costs, investigation of significant variances, corrective actions and keeping production informed of actions taken.

• Manage, coordinate or assist with the activities of all converting hourly employees on both shifts.
• Manage all production activities for converting department. Schedule shift employees and ensure crew is fully manned to cover vacations, absences and minimize overtime by utilizing your staff appropriately.
• Train, direct and mentor employees with diverse language, cultural and educational backgrounds.
• Build and maintain productive employee relationships while driving employee satisfaction. Provide direction, coaching, counseling and review disciplinary action with the Production Manager.
• Understand what each machine requires to operate efficiently and effectively.
• Ensure that the department is following protocols set in place by the quality department pertaining to documentation and cleaning procedures.
• Understand the different defects to help assist in rectifying issues within the department..
• Ensure crew is producing a quality product that meets the specifications and expectations of the plants quality objectives, the customer's expectations and managements' quality statement.
• Ensure all required shift documentation, such as production reports, are filled out completely and turned in daily.
• Ensure that all employees conduct themselves in a manner that is conducive for safety. Take the initiative to ensure that the floors are clean and cleared at all times and that waste is not over flowing onto the floor which could result in an accident.
• Maintain required Good Manufacturing Practices and 5S Compliance.
• Possess intuitive abilities to anticipate inefficiencies and bring constructive solutions in advance
• Demonstrate sound judgment, good interpersonal and strong leadership skills

Preferred Requirements

• 3+ years in a Lead role or related experience within manufacturing production.
• Experience working in a continuous improvement environment.
• Metric Driven
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop individuals and teams.
• Trouble shooting/problem solving skills
• Experience managing within an ISO/SQF certified environment
