Job Description
Responsibilities:
  • Develops and executes specific plans and programs for recruiting, assessing eligibility and selecting students for the project.
  • Conducts recruiting presentations about the project to students, parents, and target school officials.
  • Completes all outreach activities and services for target schools and communities. Provides individual and group academic advising on course work, degree plans and class scheduling. Also provides individual advising on college entrance exams, admissions requirements, financial aid and career opportunities.
  • Evaluated participants' academic, social and persona needs to determine project services and develops individual education plans for participants.
  • Conducts presentations on financial aid college admissions, entrance testing requirements and career planning to participants and parents.
  • Assists with facilitating the projects enrichment programs, meetings, or workshops throughout the year and planning and conducting various educational and cultural events and trips.

Necessary Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, social work, higher administration or an appropriate field related to project or combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of related experience with program/project serving low-income and/or first generation students in grades 8-12.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid driver's license and qualify and maintain qualification to operate a vehicle within Texas A&M System guidelines.
  • Ability to work effectively with several target schools' personnel and administrations.
  • Possess strong time management skills to effectively schedule workshops and events.
  • Knowledge of academic advising and college, career, financial aid, and economic literacy activities and related services.
  • Ability to effectively maintain a caseload of Project Participants and provide them with services and activities as indicated on their Individual Academic and Service plans. Ability to document services provided to assigned participants.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Sciences or related field.
  • Experience providing academic advising services and college, career financial aid, and economic literacy information to an assigned caseload of secondary school students (grades 8-12).
  • Experience advising and assisting low-income and potential first-generation college students (12th graders) with the college admissions and financial aid process on an individual and group basis.
  • Professional or personal experience in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting Project Participants.
  • Knowledge of Texas Public School curriculum, financial aid and college admissions processes
  • Strong knowledge and demonstrated sensitivity in serving Trio and/or other disadvantaged students.
  • Strong computer skills, knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel software programs. Experience with PowerPoint and use of social media applications.
  • English/Spanish bi-lingual skills.
