SUMMARY: The Certified Medical Coder will review and analyze medical billing and coding for processing. You will review and accurately code office and hospital procedures for reimbursement.

EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.
CERTIFICATION: Medical Coding Certificate; RHIT or CPC by AAPC or AHIMA license; meet state licensure requirements.
CONTINUED EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Medical Coders will obtain the required continued education hours, at no expense to the company, in order to maintain current and proper national certification(s) required for the position.
- Attend in-service training as required.
EXPERIENCE:
- Three (3) years of medical coding experience.
- EPIC experience preferred.
PERFORMANCE OUTCOMES:
- Receive and review patient charts and documents for accuracy
- Ensure that all codes are current and active
- Report missing or incomplete documentation
- Meet daily coding production
- Update and maintain document lists
- Performs accurate charge entries
- Ensure proper coding on provider documentation
- Implement coding updates to providers
- Provides education to providers regarding new codes, coding guidelines and insurance reimbursement policies
- Serves as resource regarding insurance resolutions and coding questions
- Follows coding guidelines and legal requirements to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations
- Performs additional duties assigned by Coding Manager as needed
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The work is mainly sedentary, but may require walking, bending, standing, and/or carrying of light items such as files, manuals, and medical records.
