Job Summary:

The OSP Coax Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the quality and compliance of coaxial cable installation projects. The OSP Coax Technician will work in coordination with construction teams to guarantee that all work adheres to industry standards, safety regulations, and company-specific requirements.

Responsibilities

What You Will Do:

  • Read, interpret, and analyze system/network design maps; verify built documentation; compare field findings with existing documentation and report results following company process.
  • Install and replace HFC physical network plant components such as coax, actives, passives, power supplies, grounding systems, pedestals, riser guards, conduit, etc., according to technical specifications, and splice coax.
  • Monitor and report signal leakages and complete repairs as required.
  • Regularly test all HFC network components using test equipment including signal level meters, volt-ohm meters, leakage detector, Time Domain Reflector (TDR), Optical Time Domain Reflector (OTDR), power meter and other related test equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance, troubleshoot, and update records of standby power supplies according to technical specifications.
  • Troubleshoot and repair distribution problems associated with RF, AC, and DC elements of the forward and reverse plant; report drop-related problems.
  • Resolve system outages.
  • Accurately complete all required company documentation for each assignment according to established company standards and procedures.
  • Operate company vehicles in a safe and responsible manner. Clean, maintain stock, and secure assigned vehicle and equipment in accordance with company policies.

Qualifications

What You Will Need:

  • Experience with telecommunications installation/service.
  • Experience with coax network installation and maintenance.
  • Must have flexibility to work night time shifts.
  • Work outdoors in all kinds of weather.
  • Follow safety policies and procedures and wear personal protective equipment for the job in a safe manner.

Physical Demands:

Ability to sit, stand, climb, kneel, bend, lift, crawl, squat, reach, and utilize both hands and feet in an aerial and underground capacity. Drive and operate a vehicle, and/or bucket. Environmental conditions: exposure to heat, cold, dust, wet, vibration, and very loud noises. Requires the ability to sit for extended periods, stand, bend, walk, communicate via telephone, computer, and/or face-to-face contact, vision to monitor, and use basic office equipment such as a personal computer, copier, and fax machines regularly during work. Work is performed in and out of an office environment.  Need to be able to lift 75 lbs to load and unload material.

 

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

  • This is a full-time non-exempt position.
  • Days of work are Sunday through Wednesday, with the possibility fo working Thursday and Friday night. Hours are 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM.
  • Evenings only.

Travel:

  • Travel exceeding 50%+
  • Travel to other markets as needed (work is planned to begin in Upstate New York and will be in the Tri-State area going forward, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania); He/She would be responsible for getting himself to market and home from market. Current market is Rochester, NY. Future markets anticipated in general area of Upstate New York.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be insurable under the company insurance policy.
  • Would have access to use a vehicle when in market
  • Be willing and able to fly on commercial airlines to projects as needed.
  • Must qualify to rent vehicles and equipment from rental companies (no record of being bared by rental companies for being the primary driver) 

Pay:

  • $25.00 per hour. $25 per active splice. $15 per active swap. $10 per passive splice.
  • Work is a night. 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM.
  • Workdays are starting Sunday night at 11:00 PM through Wednesday night at 11:00 PM. With a possibility of working Thursday night and Friday night.
  • Incumbant would be responsible for getting him/her self to market and home from market. Current market is Rochester, NY. Future markets anticipated in general area of Upstate New York.
