Organ Donor CareCenter Lead Advanced Practice Provider (APP)

Rush University Medical Center

*Minimum of three years of experience in Transplant, or other related specialty, required. APRN candidates must hold acute-care certification.

The Lead APP of the Donor Care Center will provide direct oversight of the APP Donor Care Center positions. The Lead APP will be responsible for hiring and onboarding all APPs to the Donor Care Center Policies and Procedures. In this role, the Lead APP will collaborate with the ICU Medical Director and RN Manager to provide day to day leadership and oversight of the clinical operations as well as partner directly with Gift of Hope to ensure the best possible outcomes and processes for donors transferred to Rush. The Lead APP, Donor Care Center will also play a key role in the design and development of processes for this new endeavor and will also evolve with the Donor Care Center to continuously improve its processes and partnership with Gift of Hope after the establishment of the center.

The Lead APP Donor Care Center is also responsible for schedule creation and management to ensure 24/7 coverage of the Donor Care Unit.

Responsibilities

1. The Lead Advanced Practice Provider ("APP") helps lead, supervise, coordinate, and represent the APPs within the Donor Care Center

2. APP assists with the scheduling, orientation, and other administrative and leadership duties for the APPs.

Clinical Responsibilities

3. Completes and documents an accurate history and physical examination of patients.

4. Conducts comprehensive or episodic health assessments and develops patient care plans.

5. Orders and interprets tests, treatments, and therapies within the scope of practice.

6. Prescribes medications, including controlled substances to the extent delegated including non-pharmacologic treatment modalities.

7. Orders, interprets, and performs laboratory and other diagnostic tests and procedures.

8. Provides clear, concise, and accurate information in the electronic medical record.

9. Initiate and perform consultations in accordance with Rush rules and regulations.

10. Make appropriate referrals to other health care professionals and/or agencies.

11. Provides direct patient care in assigned areas, which is a hospital emergency department setting.

12. Works collaboratively with his/her supervising/collaborating physician, department, and other members of the healthcare team in an effective and comprehensive manner.

13. Acts as an advocate for patients, families, and coworkers.

14. Participates in all required focused and ongoing professional practice evaluation activities (i.e. FPPE and OPPE)

15. Integrates evidence-based knowledge and clinical expertise in decision making.

16. Demonstrates competency in all medical and surgical procedures and skills considered essential in their area of practice.

17. Maintains board certification, state licensure, and continuing medical education.

Leadership Responsibilities

18. Supports the organization s overall strategic plan and direction.

19. Serves as a leader of the healthcare team to provide integrated delivery of patient care services.

20. Develops and leads implementation of department goals by collaborating with department staff, students, and physicians.

21. Serves as a role model and thought leader for their own profession including practice analysis and advancement to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

22. Coordinates and determines the monthly APP schedule and resolves scheduling issues with individual providers as needed.

23. Conducts annual performance evaluations of the Donor Care Center APPs and provides feedback to them in a constructive manner

24. Contributes to the development of and revisions to policies and procedures involving the APPs and helps implement these policies and procedures within the Donor Care Center

Other Information

Required Job Qualifications:

Current State of Illinois Physician Assistant Licensure.

Current Certification from National Certification Commission for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).

Degree from an ARC-PA (or predecessor) accredited PA Program.

Current State of Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) and Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) Licensure.

Current Nurse Practitioner Certification from a national certifying organization Graduate from an accredited nurse practitioner educational program

CPR certification required; ACLS PALS or NRP certification required in specific specialty areas

A high level of analytical ability.

Ability to collaborate with critical care teams and organ/transplantation professionals.

Ability to respond and adapt to an ever-changing, complex environment.

Strong innovator with the ability to improve new and current processes.

Good interpersonal and communication skills are required in order to lead, teach and interact effectively with healthcare personnel and families.

Knowledge of electronic medical record (i.e. Epic)

Ability to interact effectively with others in high-stress situations.

The ability to check documents for errors, use a keyboard to enter or retrieve data, and closely examine specimen, images or reports.

Physical Demands:

Ability to walk throughout the Medical Center and to be standing or walking most of the day

Lifting or carrying objects 35-40lbs. and lifting and positioning patients, some of whom may exceed 300 lbs.

Work conditions include performing procedures where carelessness could result in injury or illness and/or contact with potentially infectious materials and/or strong chemical agents.
