Roles and Responsibilities
The Dental Assistant (DA) will provide hands-on support to Dentists and complete the necessary prep work so the patients are efficiently cared for. To be successful as an Oral Surgery assistant, you should be highly organized and attentive to patients' needs. An outstanding Oral Surgery assistant should have an excellent understanding of Oral Surgery procedures and exceptional hand-eye coordination.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Assist dentists during a variety of dental procedures using standard 4 handed dentistry; including setting up and cleaning up
- Taking radiographs, impressions, and other diagnostic needs
- Help patients feel comfortable before, during and after treatment
- Provide patients with post-operative instructions after procedures
- Management of doctors' schedule
- Operatory room inventory
- Maintenance of dental equipment
- Provide optimal patient care including care calls
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
Required Qualifications and Skills
- H.S. Diploma or Equivalent
- Oral and maxillofacial surgery assistant certification.
- At least six months of dental assisting experience is preferred.
- Sound knowledge of how to use surgical equipment, instruments, and materials.
- A good understanding of surgical techniques, chairside responsibilities, and health and safety protocols.
- An excellent understanding of dental records, charts, and documentation.
- Great organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to provide excellent patient care, even under stressful circumstances.
- Consistent professionalism in appearance and attitude.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
- Experience working with Dentrix or EagleSoft Software
- Associate's degree
Physical Demands: Ability to continuously sit, stand or walk for extended periods
Ability to wear a facemask for long durations.
Work Environment: Work will be completed at a dental practice
