Join our dynamic hospital team with St. Joe's Hospital as a OR Control Desk, where precision meets compassion in coordinating seamless surgical procedures. Utilize your organizational prowess to ensure optimal patient care while being an integral part of our healthcare journey.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8am-5pm
The OR Control Desk Administrative Specialist (formal title: Data Specialist) is a dual role providing support to the OR Control Desk.
  • The Control Desk Specialist is responsible for sending for scheduling and posting add-on/emergent cases, serving as an administrative resource including responding to multiple internal and external calls.
  • Ensures that all contacts with patients, staff, physicians, and all customers are conducted in a professional, courteous, helpful and considerate manner. Maintains active communication among surgeons, anesthesiology staff, nursing staff, sterile processing staff, and other ancillary departments, ensuring schedule progression and issue resolution.
  • Promotes culture of safety for patients and employees proper identification, reporting, documentation and prevention.
  • Monitors inventory of clerical supplies and orders as needed.
  • Answers routine questions regarding department operations.
  • Demonstrates ability to provide accurate directions within the the department/hospital for staff, patients, families.
  • Exhibit flexibility and have the ability to multi-task.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, staff, and OR management.
  • Escalates non-routine issues to Peri-op leadership.
  • Collaborates across departments and builds effective relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Proactively reviews future schedules with the team to address the need for scheduling adjustments.
  • Ability to effectively function as a member of a collaborative team.
  • Ability to independently organize and manage time effectively, setting appropriate priorities.

The OR Scheduler and Support Specialist will also:
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, staff, and OR management
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to urgent/emergent situations per protocols
  • Exhibit flexibility and have the ability to multi-task
  • Collaborates across departments and builds effective relationships with internal and external customers to achieve goals

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of two (2) years of clerical experience in an accredited hospital or medical facility
  • Strong computer skills in data entry and word processing
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology and basic human anatomy

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience as a scheduler in a surgical setting, fast-paced physician's office, and/or experience as an Executive Assistant
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment

Physical Requirements:
Interact with others by effectively communicating, both orally and in writing.- and -Operate computers and other office equipment requiring the ability to move fingers and hands.- and -See and read computer monitors and documents.- and -Remain sitting or standing for long periods of time to perform work on a computer, telephone, or other equipment.- and -May require lifting and transporting objects and office supplies, bending, kneeling and reaching.
