Job description

Hands on training is provided by our patient care staff! Are you friendly and love talking to people? Are you obsessive about perfection? Are you computer savvy and love to trouble shoot? This is the career for you!

Opticians assist customers with frame selection, eyewear fitting, specialty lens selections and vision plan reimbursement. This job involves constant patient interaction in person and over the phone, so a sociable and extroverted personality is a must.

A typical day as an optician can include (but is not limited to)

  • Interpreting the prescriptions written by the eye doctor and creating a work order for the lens lab
  • Taking eye measurements
  • Adjusting and repairing eyeglass frames
  • Educating customers on high quality products that fit their lifestyle
  • Processing Contact lens orders and maintenance of Trial Sets
  • Follow up with patients
  • Answering phones and reception
  • Greeting and meeting new patients
  • Assisting your co-workers

Experience is appreciated but not required. We provide extensive and ongoing on the job training for our staff.

Product Knowledge & Communication

  • When needed demonstrates good product knowledge; takes the initiative to accurately describe the features and benefits of various lenses and frames
  • Assists the customer in selecting frames and lenses that are best suited for their lifestyle and Rx. Suggests improvements and recommends solutions to problems.
  • Takes time to help the customers and answer questions giving them a better understanding of available options. Shows patience and courtesy to indecisive or hard-to-please customers; offers to track down answers to unfamiliar questions or products.
  • Follows all guidelines for properly billing insurances and all necessary follow through

Administrative

  • Completes and files in a timely manner all necessary patient paperwork being thorough and exact in detail.
  • Enters patient information for Doctors.
  • Promotes teamwork
  • Adheres to all current Company policies and procedures regarding product and acknowledging receipt and disposition of physical inventory.

Education

  • ABO Certification or working toward certification preferred
  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent

Experience

  • Previous experience in customer service preferred
  • Data entry/computer keyboarding skills

Working Conditions

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 14 – 35 per week
