The Innovation Lab is an advanced R&D team that is part of the Semiconductor Test Division at Teradyne. We have a dual charter to technically support the growth of the division and company:
Responsibilities
The Innovation Lab Optical Systems Engineer will have responsibility for development of optical test instrumentation for emerging markets within semiconductor test. Instrumentation may include imaging systems, illumination sources, optical sensors, and fiber-optics, along with motion systems, cameras, and image-analysis software.
As a member of the Innovation Lab Staff, you will be empowered to propose any project that you believe can make a difference relative to the Innovation Lab Charter. In general, you will "own" the projects you sponsor and lead the development through a proof-of-concept phase. You will be hands-on during the project and will be supported by other staff from the overall engineering team as required to execute your project. Some level of risk taking is strongly encouraged to "move the needle" for the area associated with each project.

- Create long term differentiated solutions for our core Semiconductor Test business by exploring new technologies and architectures to be applied against current and emerging key requirements for our customers.
- Working with our Business Development Office, develop differentiated solutions to new business opportunities that are relatively adjacent to our core business. These will generally enable new businesses within our existing customer base.

Specific Duties Include:
- Interacting with customers to define requirements for new optical test products.
- Opto-mechanical architecture.
- Managing requirements for optical assemblies including custom imaging lenses and fiber-optic instrumentation.
- Working with engineers from other disciplines to develop innovative products.
- Developing test methods for lab and production verification.
Basic Qualifications & Skills
- At least 10 years working experience in optical engineering with focus on developing innovative technical solutions.
- The candidate should have broad technical curiosity and be highly versatile in multiple optical technologies.
- Knowledge of related technical fields such as mechanical engineering, motion systems, materials science, electronics, software, semiconductors, etc would be beneficial.
- Systems engineering background preferred.
- Experience in semiconductor testing preferred.
Education
BS Optical Engineering or Physics, or relevant degree + experience. MS preferred.
