This individual is responsible for performing the task of answering all incoming calls for the optical and contact lens departments, as well as returning any messages and thoroughly documenting said conversations. This individual is also expected to assist with day to day job duties in the optical and contact lens departments as needed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• High School education
• Optical-related experience preferred
• Preferred: Certified as Optical Technician (Certified Paraoptometric or NCLEC): or
• Must be certified within one (1) year of being hired

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Answer incoming phone calls promptly and courteously
• Return all voicemails by the end of the morning(12:00pm) or afternoon(5:00pm) session respectively
• Document all communications in Optik, EHR, and EPM as appropriate
• Prepare paperwork and complete contact lens and glasses orders in Optik
• Compute amount of sale
• Answer patient's questions regarding optical and contact lens products
• File insurance for optical and contact lens orders
• Verify glasses orders are correct from lab to information filed in Optik
• Receive glasses and contact lens jobs in Optik
• Enter glasses and contact lens jobs into Phone Tree
• Reconcile contact lens orders with what is in Optik as they arrive in the mail
• Assist patients on optical floor as needed
• Determines client's current lens prescription, when necessary, using lensometer or lens analyzer and client's eyeglasses.
• Recommends specific lenses, lens coatings, and frames to suit client needs.
• Under supervision assists client in selecting frames according to style and color, coordinating frames with facial and eye measurements and optical prescription.
• Under supervision, measures client's bridge and eye size, temple length, vertex distance, pupillary distance, and optical centers of eyes.
• Under supervision, prepares work order and instructions for grinding lenses and fabricating eyeglasses.
• Under supervision, verifies finished lenses are ground to specification.
• With supervision, heats, shapes, or bends plastic or metal frames to adjust eyeglasses to fit client.
• Instructs clients in adapting to, wearing, and caring for eyeglasses.
• Evaluates and does preliminary assessments of problems with patient's eyeglasses.
• Sells optical goods such as binoculars, plano sunglasses, magnifying glasses, and low vision aids.
• Repairs damaged frames as well as screws, nose pads and temple tips. Performs hinge repairs and holders.
• Computes amount of sale.
• Instruct patients in adapting to, wearing, and cleaning glasses and contacts
• Other responsibilities as assigned

LANGUAGE SKILLS

• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
• Ability to write simple correspondence
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

• Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units or measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
• Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs

REASONING ABILITIES

• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written and oral instructions
• Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
