OPS LABORATORY TECHNICIAN I
 

FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE AND CONSUMER SERVICES
 

DIVISION OF PLANT INDUSTRY

THIS IS A TEMPORARY PART-TIME POSITION***
 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
 

A high school diploma or its equivalent and one (1) year of experience in a laboratory, the biological sciences, or related field.
 

College or vocational/technical training can substitute at the rate of 30 semester, 45 quarter or 720 classroom hours for the required experience provided such education includes three courses in the physical and/or natural sciences.  (Note:  If education is being used to qualify for this position, you must provide a copy of an official or unofficial transcript as supporting documentation showing the required coursework.)
 

Possession of a valid Driver License.

JOB DUTIES:
 

This position assists Biological Scientists in maintaining the LaCrosse Citrus Repository Facility that support the FDACS-Division of Plant Industry's Citrus Budwood Registration and Certification programs.
 

  • Routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment / workstation, manage supplies inventories and cutting leaf materials in the lab. Assist in DNA / RNA extraction when necessary.
  • Mopping, vacuuming, and sweeping the greenhouses.
  • Pressure washing greenhouses, sidewalks and washing agricultural pots. 
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by management.
     

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
 

  • Knowledge of basic laboratory safety procedures.
  • Skilled in completing and maintaining accurate records.
  • Ability to understand and follow technical instructions.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and bend repetitiously.
  • Ability to work outdoors in hot, cold, humid environments.
  • Ability to walk on uneven ground and in inclement weather.
