Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Ophthalmic Technician to join our team. As an Ophthalmic Technician, you will play a crucial role in assisting ophthalmologists in providing quality eye care to patients. Your primary responsibilities will include conducting preliminary eye examinations, performing diagnostic tests, and educating patients on eye health and treatment options.
Duties:
- Perform patient intake procedures, including obtaining medical history and chief complaint
- Conduct visual acuity tests and other diagnostic tests such as tonometry, visual field testing, and fundus photography
- Administer eye drops and medications as directed by the ophthalmologist
- Assist with minor surgical procedures, including preparing surgical instruments and maintaining sterile conditions
- Provide patient education on premium implant, laser assisted cataract surgery, glaucoma education, contact lens insertion and removal, proper eye hygiene, and post-operative care instructions
- Maintain accurate and detailed medical records of patient encounters. - Answering medical calls, prescription refills, contact lens orders
- Needs to learn basic medical practice essentials such as scheduling appointments and collecting payments
Requirements:
- Previous experience as an Ophthalmic Technician or in a similar role is preferred
- Knowledge of ophthalmology terminology, procedures, and equipment
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately
- Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with patients of all ages - Pleasant and professional with patients and staff alike, a team player.
- Proficiency in electronic medical record systems
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of accuracy
Skills:
- Patient care: Ability to provide compassionate care to patients during examinations and procedures.
- Retail sales: Knowledge of retail sales principles and ability to explain product advantages to patients
- Ophthalmology: Knowledge of ophthalmology procedures, equipment, and terminology.
- Medical records: Experience in maintaining accurate and organized medical records.
