Develop and implement procedures to inspect incoming scrap to ensure that it meets our purchase specifications. Track scrap quality issues pertaining to incoming scrap. Ensure that Scrap Yard is operated in a safe, efficient and a cost effective manner. Continuously improve standard operating procedures to reduce costs, delays and improve production and quality. Support each area of the primary end as directed by the Superintendent to ensure they meet all department goals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Maintain a safe and clean work space
- Follow established safety rules and regulations
- Recognize, avoid, and where possible eliminate hazards within the workplace
- Attention to detail
- Perform various tasks to set up, operate, monitor, troubleshoot, and perform preventative maintenance on assigned machines
- Perform periodic checks on equipment and solve problems as detected
- Work with others in order to ensure that equipment is in proper working order
QUALIFICATIONS
Competencies and Experience Required:- Strong commitment to safety and active participation in safety oriented work culture
- Self-motivated with strong work ethics
- Ability to work solo and as part of a team
- Ability to work with minimum supervision
- Ability to work in hot and cold environments
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment
- Willing to perform repetitive tasks for extended periods
- Good communication skills
Preferred:
- 2 years of heavy industrial experience, preferably in metal industries
- Masonry and mechanical/electrical experience
- Experience operating overhead crane, forklift, and bobcat
Education
Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
