Rotating 12 Hour Shift on the 5 week operations schedule

General Description
The Operating Mechanic performs operating activities and routine inspections of plant equipment including pumps and motors, low and medium voltage switchgear, water treatment equipment, boiler equipment etc. They evaluate equipment to determine issues before they become problems and perform repairs as required or recommend repairs by way of submitting work requests if required.
Required Experience
A minimum of 2 years experience in a power plant or similar environment is required.
Responsibilities
The Operator Mechanic responsibilities include:
- Operates and monitors auxiliary systems associated with Power Plant operations.
- Maintain the operator logs for documenting and tracking all activities that occurred on shift
- Change and clean fuel oil burners, strainers, and drip pans on operating boilers etc.
- Monitor, adjust, and control all phases of boiler plant operations (e.g., water treatment, fuel systems, steam generation, pollution control).
- Reads meters, gauges, or automatic devices to record data such as temperature of equipment, vibration of equipment, hours of operation, pressure, and fluid levels, water chemistry to verify operating conditions.
- Maintains equipment by tightening fittings, replacing valve packing, gaskets, valves, and gauges.
- Understands and complies with all regulatory procedures and facility safety programs. Follow all plant environmental permits.
- Responsible for opening and closing circuit breakers as required for proper system operation and electrical isolation.
- Performs general housekeeping and continuous improvement of the appearance of the facility including painting projects as required. Maintains the cleanliness of all areas of the plant and control room.
Required Skills
- The nature of this position requires the selected candidate to perform work involving steam production, working with steam generating boilers, boiler feed pumps and fans, turbine-generators and related auxiliary equipment, water treatment systems, and fuel delivery systems. The use of hand and power tools is required.
- Selected applicants must be able to perform heavy manual labor (push, pull, and lift 45-60 lbs.) and work in power plant conditions (confined areas, hot and cold environments, and high elevations).
- Successful applicants must also pass respirator physical/fit test. A valid driver's license is required.
- Candidate is responsible for promoting safety by ensuring overall safe equipment condition and operation through enforcement of housekeeping standards, policies and procedures.
- Selected candidates must have the ability to work rotating shifts.
- Mechanical, instrumentation and electrical equipment knowledge is required
- Selected applicants must complete training programs to qualify as operators in a generating station.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education requirements
High School diploma or equivalent.
Associates or Bachelor Degree in a technical discipline preferred.
Must possess a valid driver's license.
Power Plant experience or equivalent environment preferred.
Completion of an applicable training program.
