The Operations Superintendent will report directly to the Plant Manager and will supervise all hourly production workers. This position will be responsible for all facets of a sand processing operation including production and bulk sand loading in both railcars and trucks in a union environment.
Moderate physical activity (stairs, ladders, some heights, and some enclosed vessels) will be required of the candidate and a half-face cartridge respirator required in some areas of the facility.  

Essential Job Functions: 

  • Lead efforts to maintain plant compliance with all Federal and State regulations, operating permits, and US Silica policies and procedures
  • Ensure proper training and documentation is complete for all employees, visitors, and contractors before exposure to the hazards of the operations
  • Supervise the efficient operation of the plant processes and provide process troubleshooting support to operators as the technical expert for the process
  • Identify process bottlenecks and causes of substandard performance and lead correction efforts
  • Plans and schedules operations in conjunction with maintenance to meet sales requirements
  • Ensure shipped product meets all customer requirements including product quality parameters and freedom from contamination during loading or transit
  • Manage the union workforce within the bounds of the collective bargaining agreement while fostering a positive and respectful work environment
  • Takes an active role in General safety meetings/inspections and meets with MSHA inspectors/EGLE (environmental inspectors) as needed
  • Assist in managing forecasting and budgeting of plant operations
  • Assist engineering and manage operations capital projects
  • Assist mine planning in long-term mine planning/quality management

Required Education, Experience, and Skills:

  • Minimum of 7 years of supervisory experience required in a manufacturing environment, mineral processing preferred
  • Strong mechanical knowledge
  • Represents the company personally as the face of integrity

  • Excellent problem-solving skills combined with a strong sense of urgency to implement solutions
  • Demonstrate sound judgment in choosing a course of action
  • Ability to work independently and take action to resolve problems without guidance
  • Ability to communicate with individuals at multiple levels within the organization
