Job description

Performs power flow studies and assessments of the operational planning horizon (1 to 12 months out) to support the reliable operation of the transmission system. Provides technical analysis supporting in the coordination of construction-related transmission clearances. Develops mitigation strategies for transmission constraints identified as a result of contingencies on Bulk Power System elements in conjunction with planned transmission and generation outages as well as generation dispatch schedule modifications. Conducts technical procedures to ensure proper synchronization and commissioning of generation interconnections seeking commercial operation approval. Leads verification and implementation of transmission Facility Ratings and the related regulatory compliance and control processes and requirements.
Position works coordinates externally with Transmission Operators in adjacent/overlapping territories. Position also coordinates internally between Transmission Planning, Georgia Systems Operations Control Center, and project implementation personnel.
EDUCATION: Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
EXPERIENCE:
Engineer-III: Three years in Power Systems with at least two years in Transmission Planning
Engineer-IV: Six Years (four years with P.E. License) in Power Systems with at least three years in Transmission Planning
Engineer-V: Eight Years (six years with P.E. License) in Power Systems with at least four years in Transmission Planning
EQUIVALENT EXPERIENCE:
Engineer-III: Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering; or Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering with four and a half (4.5) years of experience in the electric utility industry in an engineering role; or Bachelor of Science Degree in a related engineering field with a Professional Engineer license (Electrical Discipline) and one (1) year of experience in the electric utility industry in an engineering role; or eleven years emphasis in Power Systems with at least three years in Transmission Planning.
Engineer-IV: E-III qualifications plus three additional years of experience in listed areas; or fourteen years emphasis in Power Systems with at least five years in Transmission Planning.
Engineer-V: E-IV qualifications plus three additional years of experience in listed areas; or Master of Science Electrical Engineering with emphasis in Power Systems and six years of experience in Transmission System Planning.
Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations: EIT, PE, & PMP are applicable but not required.
Essential skillsets include: Computer skills (MS office, power flow analysis software); Computer programming (creating/debugging code, application development, etc); Financial & economic analysis capability; Good interpersonal & analytical skills, and effective oral & written communication skills; Ability to manage multiple project and/or study efforts simultaneously; Critical thinking and problem solving.
