Operations Network Engineer

JOB SUMMARY

As an Operations Network Engineer, you will maintain, monitor and resolve issues related to the network operations at POET’s bioprocessing facilities. You also provide continuous improvement of Operations Cybersecurity including vulnerability mitigation, threat detection and remote access management. You are a critical communication bridge between IT and bioprocessing operational teams.

DURING A TYPICAL DAY

• Troubleshoot and resolve complex, ambiguous issues and escalate when necessary.
• Continuous improvement of OT Cybersecurity (Vulnerability mitigation, threat detection, access management).
• Proactive monitoring of OT network devices, services, and servers using a combination of tools to ensure high availability and SLA’s.
• Identify opportunities to improve OT network, security and applications.
• Implementation coordination related to industrial networking, applications upgrade / deployments.
• Management of vendor access in PLC and Scada applications and equipment.
• Assist in the configuration and deployment of OT network devices, which will require continuous learning of new devices.
• Maintain and update industrial automation network architecture and access.
• Organize windows patch install in industrial automation servers and workstations across POET footprint in coordination with the Process Automation teams.
• Improvement planning for industrial networking and industrial applications roadmap.
• Facilitate meetings regarding continuous improvement of system performance.
• Assist in the creation, support and maintenance of operational documentation as relating to IT/OT Infrastructure across POET footprint.
• Ensure security guidelines are adhered to and maintained with remote vendor access and across the IT and OT Network environment.

STRENGTHS OF A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE

• Bachelor’s/Associate’s degree in Computer Science is required. An Associate’s degree/high school diploma may be considered with a minimum of 5 of related experience.
• 1 to 3 years of experience supporting an OT/ICS environment with an understanding of industrial control systems and the importance within the environment.
• Understanding of Plant Operations Technology (OT) equipment and operation reliance.
• Strong understanding of security principles.
• Ability to quickly learn new or unfamiliar technology and evaluate its use to satisfy project specifications.
• In-depth knowledge of the TCP / IP protocol suite, security architecture, securing and hardening Operating Systems, Networks, Databases and Applications.
• Experience with OT network security best practices and protocols.
• Implementation and design/support experience with Microsoft Technologies including (but not limited to):
  • Microsoft server infrastructure
  • Windows 2008/2012/2016/2019
  • Active Directory, Authentication, SSO & Identity Management
  • SQL
• Knowledge of the Incident Response life cycle.
• Extremely high attention to detail, well organized with good documentation abilities.
• Comfortable working in a team and independently.
• Self-motivated individual with a willingness to improve processes and functions.
• Understanding of urgency and caution when operating in an OT systems environment.
• Strong analytical, problem solving and communication skills.
• Excellent organizational, time management, and communication skills as well as the ability to embrace change.
• You communicate effectively in writing and in person.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Up to 50% travel will be part of the norm for this position to visit the bioprocessing facilities, meetings and site visits. At times overnight travel may be required.
• In this role, you’ll be asked to drive a POET vehicle. A motor vehicle record check will be conducted during the preemployment process and yearly thereafter.
• The work environment at POET is dynamic. You should expect a balance between time spent in the office and at the bioprocessing facility, which may include some physical labor helping your team members.
• This position operates in an office environment working at a personal computer where you may sit or stand.
